The city air was cool and crisp, with a slight smog from the vehicles below, but no one seemed to notice. People went about their business, walking, jogging, cycling to and from work, taking in the timid fall sunshine.
You could tell just by their confident and relaxed stride who was a native New Yorker, going about their daily routine. It was the ones that weren't who seemed a little humorous to watch. Tourists in all their glory wondered about the city streets, map in hand, camera in the other, blinded by the mile-long skyscrapers.
A fine example would be the naive and confuzzled Kendal, navigating her way through the crowds of people on this fine, Saturday afternoon. She desperately searched for the right street sign, the one that would finally lead to her destination, and constantly read and re-read the directions from her iphone.
Kendal knew her chance to make it big was drawing very near when she received her acceptance into NYU on a dance scholarship. She had set big goals for herself, NYU was number one, and now, checked off.
Well, that was really the only goal she had set so far, and now it was just time to live it up to the fullest.
Her big, loving family back in New Jersey couldn't have been more overjoyed for their little girl, but had a hard time releasing her from the nest. Coming from a big Italian family had its perks sometimes, but when it came to growing up, no one was granted any privacy, so Kendal was more than excited to get the hell out of the Alfonso household and finally start her life.
Clad in a brown Victoria's Secret sweatshirt, light jeans, and brown uggs, she scampered down the sidewalks and zig-zagged across the streets, pushing up her nerd-chic glasses and tucking loose strands of her long, jet black hair behind her ear.
Her eyes bounced around and she felt oddly small compared to the big city and the people who occupied it. She was just one fish in a sea of millions, after all, just being tossed around by the steady currents of the water.
Little did she know how special she really is, the beauty radiating from her thin frame, that catches the eye of a very important player in the world of the stars.
Of course, since the New Jersey girl did not even feel his intense gaze, she continued her journey to the new chapter of her life, only just a mere few pages away.
Kendal came to a halt at the next crosswalk, patiently waiting for the red light to glow green, and when it did she made a move to dart out into the road, along side her other fellow street walkers, but never made it to the other side.
As soon as her fuzzy, brown ugg made one step, she was jerked back, brown eyes gone wide, a soft yelp escaping her plush, pink lips.
