A griffin is a hybrid of a lion and an eagle. With the body and size of a lion, and the wings, talons, and head of a bald eagle, a griffin can be very dangerous. Originally griffins were created in a 17th century lab by a scientist who wanted something to kill his rival, but things quickly got out of control and his creations turned on him, escaping into the wild, and reproducing. But now griffins are believed to be extinct, and no one's seen one in over a hundred years. Griffins had a lifespan of about 200 years. Griffins were known to be exceptionally intelligent (almost as smart as hippogriffs) but not sentient.
