EVIE

No one noticed how worse she's gottten each day. The paler she became. The dark bags in her eyes. The tiredness and uncertainty in her aura.

No one noticed. No one but Jay.

She doesn't eat much lately. Doesn't smile, but when she does, it's forced. Doesn't speak too often, like she used to before. And gets a little too distant every now and then.

JAY

Jay noticed.

He didn't wanna worry the others so he kept quiet. He didn't tell anyone but also unsure of what to do so he didn't do anything.

A big mistake. He soon regretted that mistake.

No, it's a tad too late for that now.

It was the afternoon after his game. After weeks of endless training, finally. Finally, they won! Him being the team's MVP. Again.

The smile was present in everyone's faces. Some more than most. All in all though, everyone was happy.

But he was looking for a certain someone. Someone to congratulate him. To tell him that he did a good job. And if he was a tad too lucky today, maybe, just maybe, a kiss on the cheek. Yeah, he'd like that too.

But the blue-haired blueberry wasn't anywhere to be found. Not in the crowd, nor with the ones cheering their team on. Weirdly, she's not with Mal and Carlos either.

Well, Jay has noticed a lot of things actually. Like how Mal was always too busy with Ben these days as Carlos was with his dog. And Evie's acting overly weird and its bothering him too much.

He ran away from the after-party celebration, planning to look for Evie.

He looked everywhere-literally-but not once did he found her. Until he had the great (obvious) idea of looking for her in their (the four VK's) room.

Until, he opened the door...

EVIE

Her eyes burned.

It hurts. It really really hurts.

A metal glinted at a distance and her eyes welled up with tears that now fall freely down her cheeks.

I'm sorry. Sorry Mal. Carlos. Mom.

Jay. I...

JAY

He stood, frozen at the sight in front of him.

Her form, regal, like a real queen. Oh how she'd like that when she hears him. Her face, as pale as the breath of moonlight, looks so peaceful with a small smile gracing her features. The first one he's seen so genuine from her. Her pale hand rested just below her stomach, holding something... No. She would never-

His eyes widened in realization and tears threatened to fall, but doesn't.

Evie...

Her long eyelashes framed those eyes. The eyes he fell in love with. Those dark chocolate brown eyes that he can never hope to see again. Even for one last time.
Her plump red lips. Her innocence. Her kindness. Her everything.

The place lingered of her sweet blueberry scent, mixed with something else he quite knew familiar.

His knees buckled and he cried out. Footsteps rushed into the room and the purplette gave a gasp of surprise mixed with horror. Carlos and Mal hugged him wordlessly as the three of them mourned for their lost friend. They knew the pain he was feeling right now. They were feeling it too, him the most.

It wasn't supposed to end like this. He was supposed to save her. Stay by her side. He was supposed to be there when she's breaking down. He was supposed to...

He wanted to.

Say the words until it's too late.

I Love you. Ti amo. Saranghae. Mahal kita. I Love you. I Love you.

But saying it a gajillion times wouldn't matter.

It was already too late.

No.

Evie was gone.

EVIE

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

"Shhh. Calm down now. I'm here. I won't ever leave you."

"It was all just a bad dream? It wasn't real, right?"

"Yeah. Just a bad dream, Evie."

"I don't wanna leave you, Jay."

"Me too, princess. Me too."

"I won't."

"I Promise."

END
