Cole opened the door to his apartment and we both instantly headed for the couch. We put on some TV and it didn't take very long for us to fall asleep. A good nap was all we really needed.
By the time I woke up it was already around 6. I noticed Cole was still sleeping so I walked quietly into the room I was occupying. I took out my phone and realized I had a bunch of texts and missed calls from Chase and Shane. I decided I'd call them back.
"Hey guys!" I greeted after they picked up on a 3 way call.
"I'm sorry Shane did you say something?" I heard Chase ask with pure sarcasm.
"Nah dude I thought that was you," Shane responded in the same tone.
I could almost see their smiles through the phone. Man I've missed them and their jokes. I kind of wish they had come with me, but too late now huh.
"Ugh guys really?!" I exclaimed not in the mood for this. They were like my 2 annoying older brothers.
"Whoa that sounded like Lake," Chase continued.
"Lake? No it couldn't have been her. She never likes to answer our calls or texts," Shane replied.
"I'm gonna hang up in a minute," I said frustrated with their joke.
"Dude chill we're only messing with you. And remember you're the one who hasn't responded to us for like ever," Chase said.
"Okay okay!" I surrendered.
"So what's going on?" Shane asked.
"Not much. I'm in California just hanging back for a little bit. I really like it here though. You guys should definitely visit," I said.
"Yeah maybe one day. But that sounds awesome, Lake. Where are you staying?" Chase asked.
"Oh with a friend I met on the way here," I responded nonchalantly not really thinking anything of it.
"Wait you mean you just met this person?" Chase asked concerned.
"Yeah but he's cool," I defended.
"And it's a guy? Lake isn't that a little sketchy?" Shane questioned.
"No it's not. This guy is probably the most harmless person on the planet and he's really nice. Don't worry about me I've got everything under control," I said firmly.
"Okay..." Chase drifted off not completely convinced.
"And he's cool; he's taking me to a party later."
"Whoa there girl!" Shane yelled.
"What?!" I was getting kind of annoyed.
"Okay okay! We're not your parents," Chase said in an understanding tone, "just be careful and don't drink anything anyone gives you."
"And never put your drink down and if you do, don't pick it back up," Shane advised.
"Oh and use protection!" Chase added laughing.
"Oh Lord are you guys done?" I asked feeling the blood rush to my cheeks.
"Fine but promise you'll call later?" Shane asked.
