Chapter 3
‘’We’re so going to be late.’’
Alexandre tugged at her hand, forcing her to run faster. His parents insisted on a family lunch outdoors, so they went to a lake house near. His father was barbecuing while Amélie and Madame prepared all sorts of salads and a dessert. They all had a good time, but arrived home later than they had expected.
Lucas helped Alexandre to pack all their things and put them in the car. When they finally got everything in, they realized the train was leaving for less than half an hour. Fortunately for them, they had their tickets safely put in Amélie’s bag.
Madame let a few stray tears run down her cheeks as she hugged her son and Amélie. She knew it wasn’t the last time she’ll see them, but a month without them would make her lonely. Madame got used to having Amélie in the house too. She was the one who helped her cook, clean and have a good time. Living in a house with two men was a bit hard. They didn’t like shopping, jewellery, make up, fashion, cooking videos…there was nothing in common.
Monsieur Lucas wasn’t as emotional as his wife, but he also hugged his son tightly, with a sigh. Amélie smiled, the two of them shared a strong father and son connection. She looked at her watch, alarmed. They all got their luggage and ran to the train.
‘’Wait, isn’t that our train?’’
Alexandre’s face paled. The train they were looking at started moving and closed all the doors. There were several people waiting beside them, so it gave hope that another train will arrive.
‘’Bonjour. Pouvez-vous m'aider? Est-ce que c'est le bon quai pour le train de Paris? (Can you help me? Is this the right platform for the Paris train?)
‘’Oui, monsieur.’’
They both sighed in relief. The train was obviously late, which was a great thing for them. The man Alexandre had asked pointed at the number of the platform as Amélie checked their tickets. It was true, they hadn’t missed their train.
Even if they did, it wouldn’t be a big problem. The train for Paris from Bayeux was there almost every hour.
‘’Merci beaucoup.’’
Amélie just nodded, thinking how learning a bit of French would be helpful now. Alexandre said he’ll teach her, but she didn’t want to embarrass herself. French was one of the hardest languages to learn, so her accent would probably make him laugh non-stop.
As they patiently waited for their train, more and more people came onto the platform. It was a tourist group, and from what Amélie heard, they were probably from Germany. Someone bumped into her from behind, but Alexandre grabbed her hand before she lost her balance. She turned to the person who ran into her. It was a male, about her age. He said something that sounded like an apology, but Alex continued to glare at him anyway. It was one of those things Amélie sometimes hated, and sometimes loved.
Ever since she had a crush on one of Alex’s friends, Alex became protective and possessive when a male was near. It was also funny, she was wondering how could he be so calm and then switch on the protective mode.
The man slightly lowered his head, uncomfortable because of the lady’s boyfriend. In a few years, he’ll become so possessive that she won’t be allowed to go anywhere without him, the man thought.
‘’Knock it off, Alex. It was an accident.’’
‘’Yeah, sure.’’
He shrugged. How couldn’t she see why he acted like this? Alex tried everything to get her attention, but she never saw him like something more than a friend…at least he thought so. Dorian, his best friend almost stole her away from him, but how? All he had done was smile at her and say his name and she was already blushing. She never blushed when I was around. Maybe she really doesn’t love me…If that’s so, Paris will change her mind. I’ll make her fall in love with me first.
