Chloe's POV
Dream
I woke up to the smell of breakfast. I walked into the family room, and saw my parents sitting down, not moving or talking, just sitting. They were both facing forward, and it was starting to seriously creep me out.
I walked over to mom and sat down next to her. She didn't move or anything. I looked at her face, and saw her throat was slit and she was stabbed...a lot. The same with my dad. I stood up, and they both just fell. Their limp bodies lying on the ground. Blood started pooling around them, and the entire carpet was stained red.
Ria came over and fell with them, also with a slit throat and stab wounds. I looked around for Caleb, not seeing him anywhere. Then, Jeff walked in, and took out his knife. He walked up to me and said, "I told you I'd be back, didn't I? Now, for the last time...GO TO SLEEP!" He slit my throat, stabbed me, and went around carving smiles into my family's faces. Though, I could still see what was happening.
When he was finished, he laughed that evil little laugh, and simply said, "Now you're all beautiful." Then I was falling.
Still morning
I woke up in a pool of sweat and tears. I didn't know where I was. It was a darker room, with one small window on a small metal door, and the bed I woke up on. This wasn't my room, and these were not my clothes. I was wearing a black v-neck shirt and sweatpants. I looked like an old man. I thought of Ria and my parents and Caleb. Where was Caleb? He wasn't with Ria, but he wasn't dead with my parents either. My parents. I missed them already. I felt myself start to shake and I suddenly felt this anger and energy inside of me. It was like I needed some action. I ignored it, and went over to the door. I peeked through the window, finding three guards there keeping watch.
"Hey, uh, where am I? Can I come out? Is Ria okay?" I had so many questions, but they just glanced at me. I went on asking them questions, until the youngest looking one walked over, and said, "You are in a safe-place, calm down." Calm down? Who did this guy think I was? I saw my parents dead, and was in a fight with a serial killer. How the hell was I supposed to calm down? Oh, and I can't leave out that they won't let me see my sister.
I stood there knocking, until another man came into the office outside my little room.
"Chloe, how are you feeling? Would you like to come out?" I nodded as he typed in a code to let me out. I stepped out, thinking Wait. They wouldn't just let me out like that. Why do the look...scared?
They were all pale and looked like someone was holding a knife to their throats. "What's up with you?" I asked. They looked towards the door, motioning for me to follow them. I followed them outside, and they all went different ways. It felt like a dream, so I pinched myself. Nope. Not a dream.
"Where the hell are you going? Who do I follow?" They glanced at me with a scared look. All of a sudden, I felt a hand cover my mouth and something sharp go up to my throat. The men all ran, and one of them called 911.
"Hey, darlin. I told you I'd be back." Jeff was back, and he was here to kill me. I looked up at his face trembling, and saw the animal look in his eyes. I thought of a way to escape this, and said the last thing I possibly could; "Go ahead. I want you to kill me now. My parents are gone, and my sister is...well I don't even know. And her boyfriend wasn't even there. I have no other family, and I want to die. So, go ahead," He stood there, and let me go. He looked confused and taken back.
"You want me to kill you?" he asked me, putting emphasis on "want". "Well, yea. That's what I just said, right?" I tried to make it believable, while also hoping he'd let me go. That's when he said the unexpected.
"You know, I kind of like having victims who give me permission to kill them. It's fun. But I don't like it either. I don't like having victims who want to die, because then they stop fighting, and there's no challenge. But, if you say so, then GO TO SLEEP." He slit my throat, but not deep enough. He stabbed me only...once. He ran away and left while I blacked out.
Tomorrow
I woke up next to a nurse treating me on a hospital bed. I tried to talk, but my throat hurt. I remembered only a little bit of what had happened. Jeff cut me and told me he didn't like people like me, then ran off. I couldn't help but think he didn't want to kill me.
Why didn't he kill me?
I looked at the nurse who I didn't know was talking to me.
"There are reporters here to see you. They have a few questions. Do not talk, only write. Okay?" She handed me a white board and a marker. I wrote down "Okay, I'll answer some." She left the room, and in minutes, the small room was filled with cameras and news reporters and police officers.
"Okay everyone. Chloe has just woken up from her surgery, so don't ask too many questions at the same time please." The nurse then left me alone with these people. The first questions came from a woman in a black business suit. "Was it really the infamous Jeff the Killer who stabbed you? What did he look like? Did he match his description?"
I wrote, "Yes, It was Jeffrey. He doesn't quite match his description, but does have a slit smile, black pants, a white hoodie, white, leathery skin, and messy black hair." They looked at me, and someone else, a man, asked me another question.
"Did he say anything before it happened? Anything about your parents? If so, then what?" I refused to tell them, so I wrote, "Nothing for you to know, I'm done here." After they left, I wrote down something for the nurse.
"Where's my sister? Is she okay?" She read it, and said, "I will have the doctor talk to you about it. Wait for a moment," and she left.
A few minutes later, my doctor came in. "So, I heard you wanted Ria, correct?" I nodded. "Well, she is doing fine. She is in another room, with a broken leg and dislocated shoulder. She will be fine. You can see her when you are better, alright? And for you, you were stabbed once in the upper stomach, near your lungs, so we did immediate surgery when you arrived. You also have a small cut on your throat. You will recover fast, moving at this pace." He stopped and seem to get a little uncomfortable. "Chloe, you saw your parents, and know they are gone. But, Ria does not know. Would you like to tell her, or would you like for me to?"
I wrote on my little board, "I want to tell her. Did you ever find her boyfriend? Caleb?" He slowly nodded his head, and walked over to me.
"Yes, uh, he came in to visit Ria, but she was in surgery. The front desk nurse said he was very upset, but said he'd wait for her. She called me down after the surgery and told me he asked for her, said he would wait, but he just disappeared. She didn't see him anywhere. Ria has been asking for you, him, and your parents. If Caleb comes back, I will let you know, as well as Ria. You might want to get some rest, you look tired." And with that, he set down a glass of water, and left.
I tried to fall asleep, but couldn't. I couldn't stop thinking of how I was going to tell Ria about mom and dad. How do you tell your sister that our parents are dead? That I saw them with slit throats and stab wounds in them both? I couldn't. But I had to.
I tried forgetting about it, and started to fall asleep.
Think of our new life here. Think of how happy Ria and I can be. Think about Ria and Caleb, what kind of life they can have here. Think of happy thoughts.
I fell into the best sleep I've had this week.
