It has been a year since Chris and I began dating. Even though his mother was pushing marriage, we decided to wait to tie the knot. However, after my doctors appointment, I had a sickening feeling that I was going to be single very soon.
With my music turned up, the events of my appointment ran through my mind. I was pregnant and every method of protection failed. Shit. This wasn't going to go so well, especially when he wasn't too sure about kids. I was perfectly fine waiting for him.
I took a deep breath as I stepped out of my little car and into the record studio. "Chris?" I asked nervously.
"Yeah?" he answered with a grin.
"C-can I talk to you for a minute?" I asked as I fidgeted in my spot.
"Of course, what's up?"
"No... outside please?"
"Hon, you know you can say whatever it is in front of the guys.."
Trust me, I knew that was true, but I really didn't want to tell everyone at once. At that moment, I remembered I left a home pregnancy test on the bathroom sink. Not only were Ghost and Kylie staying with us, but so were his parents while they got work done on their home.
Thank goodness Ghost's phone had gone off because it gave me the perfect reason to get Chris alone. Once we were outside, I couldn't stop myself from talking. "Before I say what I need to, remember I would never trap you and I'm only telling you because you deserve the choice if you wanna stick around or not.."
"Baby, what are you talking about?"
"They had to remove my birth control..."
"Okay...was there something wrong with it?" he asked, obviously confused because I wasn't making sense.
"Everything failed and... I'm pregnant..." At the end, my voice was barely above a whisper and it cracked. He just stared at me blankly like I was speaking in another language. "Chris...I'm sorry. And if you're not ready for this baby, I understand, just tell me and I'll go back to Altoona."
I couldn't hide the ping of fear and dread that shot through me as I spoke. God... what if he decided this was too much and wanted nothing to do with us? Huh... funny. I already counted my child as a part of us, living and needing her father as much as I did. Making up my mind, I'd refuse to beg if he chose differently than what I wanted.
"Angie...," he whispered and I knew he was scared out of his mind. "First off, I would never run with my tail between my legs because of this. Second, are you sure?" I nodded slowly. "Okay, then you're permanently moving in with me and we will find something for her nursery."
I couldn't help but smile as he lead me back into the studio. "Hey, y'all." I said nervously as I sat on Chris' lap as usual.
"Hey, Ang, can you please translate Kylie's squeals for me?"
I nodded as I took the phone from Ghost, telling her to throw the home pregnancy test away, then hung up. Looking around, I could see each of my child's uncles staring at Chris and me strangely. "Okay, what's going on?" Ricky questioned.
"Well.... Kylie was excited because...," I took a deep breath and squeezed Chris' hand. "Because she found the home pregnancy test and the doctor did confirm. We are going to have a baby." I smiled widely, slightly nervous at what their reactions would be. Everyone seemed shocked into silence until Ricky started dancing around singing that he was going to be an uncle.
