"Ready?" I asked as I watched Skye get her things together. She nodded slowly and threw her book bag over her shoulders. "Umm..the bike safe?"
"What do you mean?" I tried to hide the little smile, her cluelessness was cute on her.
"You know, the the baby. Don't want your-"
"Phoenix I will call my dad if you finish that sentence"
I sighed, deciding this was a battle best fought away from school. I looked over her shoulder to see Dameon tapping his watch. Great, now I was on a time limit to be fine with her pregnancy and make her fall in love with me again. "Uncle Josh is happy by the way. He says I don't know how to change Aja right."
She giggled her special laugh. Damn, I missed that. We jumped on my bike and let her wrap her arms around me. I tried to hide the cringe, I hadn't been touch by anyone but those psychos for months.
She was gentle; they weren't. She smelled of vanilla and lavender; they mind as well used alcohol for cologne. Skye was still my everything and my dream; I was stuck in the nightmare that was Devon and Dameon.
I had to shake my head quickly before pulling into Balz's driveway. Walking in, Balz gave us both a smug smile. "We get two babysitters tonight?"
"Yep, two for the price of one." Skye said jokingly.
"Oh yay I get to pay nothing to two." Balz said with a laugh.
"Don't be silly. I have money in an envelope if you guys get hungry, and there's six bottles made in the fridge. She shouldn't go through them all." Ryan said as she grabbed her coat. "Oh, and she's napping upstairs right now."
"Okay, we got this." I said quickly and waved as they walked out. "Hungry?" Skye shook her head no. "Sick?" Another shake of the head. She took off her jacket and I noticed the arm Warmers. "Oh god, Skye, please not again."
"What would you care? You left me." She shot. Yep, she was again.
"Rae Rae, I'm always here for you."
"Bull shit. You ignore my calls, Nix. And my texts."
"I had to.."
"Why?" She questioned before looking at her phone. She was already pale but damn she turned white as a ghost.
"I just had to.."
"Really? You had to ignore the texts that told you something was wrong? Since when did Uncle Ricky give a shit?" She screamed.
"Not him. It's none of your business why I had to. So you made the dumb mistake-"
"Excuse you?" She interrupted. "I was raped! I was tormented into silence. I had to face my father and ask him to take me to the doctors. I had to lay there while..." Her voice cracked.
Dammit, I knew what she meant. I knew what having everything taken from you felt like. I just couldn't tell her, of everyone it was her I didn't want to see me as weak. "Skye.."
"I have to get Aja." She said quickly and just as she made it to the top of the stairs, the baby started to cry.
I waited until she came back downstairs. If my life would just play out the way it should, I could see exactly what I wanted: her coming down the steps holding a baby. Both of us taking time off of our music, but I'd have an art gallery as well so that I could support my family. It would be perfect.
That is, if I was allowed to have that life.
