Much like the rest of her life, tending to a hurt Captain America became something that Lily got used to. After one too many mornings of the nurses coming in to check on Steve and seeing Lily sleeping in the only chair in the room- an old straight backed metal one- they made her a pallet of blankets and pillows in the floor beside Steve's bed. In the mornings, Lily would get ready in the Avenger Tower bathrooms and head to her classes. Sometimes Sam would walk with her and sometimes Happy would drive her.
Classes would progress as normal and soon her work day would end. She would head back to the Tower and settle on the bed with Steve and he would tell her everything that had happened that day while she was at work.
At the beginning, they celebrated that Steve was able to get out of bed. By the end of the first month, he was up and in rehab for his back and legs. By the end of the second month, Steve was spending several hours in the Tower training rooms. After spending 6 hours there without breaking a sweat, the doctors told them that Steve was recovered enough to go back to his apartment and finish getting well there. They celebrated that day- a Friday- by having a substitute cover Lily's classes and moved Steve back to his apartment. Once Sam had left, Steve and Lily had sat on the couch and had gotten quite interested in a documentary on Nazi Germany when Lily realized- "I haven't been to my apartment in over two months!" She was a flurry of motion and suddenly was gone from Steve's living room.
He was in the motion of getting up and following her when his phone in the kitchen started ringing.
On the other side of the city Ilia burst into the Office/Lobby of her Complex. She was greeted by an angry owner who pointed to a trash bag and several cardboard boxes. "What? You can't just kick me out? I am all paid up on rent and-"
"No Miss Davis." She was interupted, "Apartment Rule #16- if you do not make an appearance in over a month to your residence- no matter payments- the owner has the right to remove your things and offer your rooms to another renter. It has been two months. Be grateful we saved your things." With that he turned and walked away, leaving Lily shouting after him "Wait- where am I going to live now?" He didn't even look back.
Tears started to form in her eyes and she angrily wiped them away. Soon though, there were too many and she sat down in the chair and just cried.
What felt like hours but was really just 5 minutes later, she was able to compose herself enough to pull out her phone and call the one person who had never let her down.
"Rocky, I need you."
