I turned around and to my complete horror, a vending machine had started to follow me. Slowly at first but it started to pick up the pace as I grew more agitated. I started walking backwards, away from the machine but it kept following me. Another set of rattling came from my left and I saw that it was one of those carts that stand in the middle of the mall and where people are always trying to sell you hair products and stuff, was creeping towards me too. Except this one was selling light bulbs, don't ask me why, and I was accidentally making all of them flicker on and off, even though most weren't connected to an energy source. Some stupid little kid shouted,
"Look, the machines are following that guy!" pointing at me. Oh my GOSH, the freaking little retard, I don't want people to notice that! I looked around frantically, trying to figure out how I was gonna get out of this mess without being noticed more than I already was. I was thinking about making a run for it, when movement in the small crowd caught my eye. A female figure in a fedora burst through the crowd clapping,
"Well done, well done." She looked at the crowd,"Well, folks, you saw it, real magic!" What the H. E. double hockey stick was this chick doing? She continued, "Right here in your home town! Who could have faked that?" With that, she turned around and I realized with a start that it was Raina the she devil! She looked at me the gestured with her eyes that I was supposed to make everything stop moving. Oh, yeah sure, no problem there. It's not like I was doing that on purpose. Ugh.
I tried anyway. I shrugged my shoulders in an attempt to loosen them, closed my eyes and raised my hands. If I was gonna do this, might as well go all out. I reached out to feel every vibrating nerve and every energized cell in my body and tried to calm them down. Nothing. I tried something else. I thought of the way that the ocean waves sound as they crashed upon the rocks below the cliffs that I used to live near in Ireland and the way they would make me feel calm and peaceful. I impressed this feeling on to every cell and nerve. The vibrating slowed, then stopped. I opened my eyes and saw with relief that it had worked. I realized that I was just kinda standing there awkwardly as everyone waited for me to do something. I bowed majestically several times and the small crowed started clapping.
"If you can't believe that, just keep watching." Raina said. Hahahaha wait what? There was going to be more?! Raina paraded over to a family in the crowd and asked to borough their blanket for a second. She came back to the middle of the circle that the crowd had created and asked them to give the family a round of applause for letting us use her blanket. Once they were done, Raina raised her arm royally and announced,
"Now you will see something amazing! As you can see, this is just an normal blanket." She said, showing the crowd both sides. They nodded and blah blah all the stuff you're supposed to do in this situation.
"Now, without any curtains or setup props, I will change my attire to something more suitable." She continued. She flung the blanket over herself, waited for a second and then grandly revealed herself. She was now wearing a nice navy blue suit with a white top underneath. Cool. I don't remember what she was wearing before, but I liked the change. It matched the fedora nicely. The larger crowd started to clap as she returned the blanket to the original owners.
"You know, magic is a strange thing, it can act up or not cooperate, but if we can harness it, we can change the world," She gave her pretty speech as she strutted around the circle. This was getting fun.
"My partner will help me with this next act." Nope, not fun anymore. Crowds and performances, not really my thing. Not much I could do though, so I tried to do my best and swagger over. Raina looked at the crowd.
"I am also going to need eight quarters if any of you fine folks don't mind." She laughed as she saw their not-so-eager faces and reassured them that they would get them back. Once assured, the crowd was able to find the right amount of quarters and she collected them.
"I will now show you how magic is in our blood. If we concentrate hard enough, we can use the electricity in our blood to actually make metal objects float. My partner will demonstrate this by making these quarters float around his hands." She said looking pointedly at me. Psh! That was easy. I do that just for fun in my room. I nodded my agreement at her and she threw the first quarter at me. I magnetized my hands as the quarter flew between them. It left my hands momentarily like it was trying to escape but was sucked back in by the force of my magnetism. I move in a slow circle to show the audience as they "oohed" and "awed". Once I had completed my circle, Raina threw another quarter at me, then another and another. I decided that I wanted to play a little magic trick on her too. I clapped my hands together, all four quarters in between, located the other four in Raina's coat sleeve, and moved them out of her sleeve across the floor and into my pant leg faster than anyone could blink. She looked confused for a second and checked her sleeve where the quarters used to be. Realizing that they weren't there, she looked at me with wide eyes. I smirked at her while I moved the four quarters in my pant leg up and into my hands via sweatshirt sleeve. I winked at her incredulous face and my hands flew apart, revealing all eight quarters suspended between.
I spun them around in circles, made different patterns and circled them around myself, through my fingers and making some disappear, then reappear in different places. Well, as much as the crowd seemed to enjoy that, it was kinda boring. While making several circles around my torso, I located the energy streams of the various light sources around. It was getting dark now so this was gonna look awesome! I clapped my hands together, trapping all eight quarters in between at the same time that I cut the power to all the main lights surrounding us, just leaving the white dangle lights that ran from building to building.
I closed my eyes and concentrated on the eight metal objects in my hand, and bringing the energy that I had felt before back and filling them with it. I could feel them start to vibrate. My eyes flew open at the same time as my hands to reveal that all of the quarters were glowing blue. The crowd gasped and even Raina looked shocked for a millisecond. That's right bruh, a whole whopping millisecond.
I spun the quarters around me, through the crowd, in the air, snaked along the ground and made all sorts of patters with them till I ended it my clapping my hands together and turning all the lights back on. The, now large, crowed erupted into applause. Both Raina and I bowed majestically and She raised her hands for them to stop. She thanked them or watching and returned all of their quarters. Before she left she advertised for one of the clothing shops nearby. No clue why she did that, but you know, whatever. My legs started to quiver from all of the adrenaline coursing through me. Wow. That was awesome.
I looked around the dissipating crowd, but Raina seemed to have vanished. I wanted to thank her for saving my butt. Where did she go? There she was! She was giving her fedora to the guy that she had advertised for. I ran over to her and stepped in front of her since she didn't seem to notice me. I smiled at her.
"That was amazing! But how did you know-" I started, but she interrupted me.
"I just knew, ok?" she said curtly. Dang, what crawled up her butt and died? "See you later." She said and stormed off. Wow, talk about some serious mood swings. That still didn't answer how she knew about my powers. I needed to know this. Maybe now wasn't the best time though.
