Hayden's pov
I had no idea where Parker was, let alone how I was going to take him down. I groaned in frustration. I had another race tomorrow and I had no ducking idea where to even begin. I knew it would be easier if I asked for help, but I didn't need help. I didn't need anyone.
I kicked my bike into life and decided to go a ride. I needed some way to relax and I needed someway to do it now.
My thoughts drifted to Danni. Everything about her made me want her so fucking much. The way her dark hair fell, covering one of her forest green eyes. The way her face would change from friendly to determined any time I challenged her. The way her laugh sounded like bells. I knew there was something she was hiding from me, but the same way I wasn't telling her about Parker, I could understand that there were something's you just didn't tell people. I had a feeling that there was more than just a secret she was keeping from me though. The way she was around Dan, everytime he dropped my bike off she happened to be there. Or the way she was always disappearing into the garage. Was she sleeping with Dan?! That was what it was, everytime they were together they always shares this knowing look. I never thought much of it, but it pissed me off so much to know that my best friend was sleeping with my girl. My girl. I liked the sound of that.
I circled back into the drive and pulled out my cell. I called my mom and she answered straight away. "Hey mom, yeah Janet's away for a few months and I'm going to stay with Daniella til they get home." I said.
"That's great, Hayden. Are you and Daniella becoming good friends?" She asked. I smiled.
"You could say something like that." I said in a knowing voice.
"Well behave." She said before saying goodbye and hanging up.
When I walked inside, Daniella was sitting on the stairs, her eyes full of tears and her head in her hands.
"Danni, what's wrong?!" I asked.
"My parents phoned." She said.
"And?" I asked.
"They're moving permanently over to LA.I cant believe they could just leave me like that." She sobbed.
"Its going to be alright." I said, pulling her into a hug.
She buried her head into my chest, sobbing quietly. "I'm all alone now, I have no one." She said, lifting her head and using the sleeve of her jumper to dry her eyes.
"Your not alone. I'm here for as long as you need me. And even then you can always count on me." I said gently, kissing her hair.
She looked up and her lips drifted towards mine. I moved closer as well, but stopped when the front door opened.
Danni's pov
"I'm home!" My big brother Jared said, throwing the door open.
Jared was two years older than me and had moved away to college six months ago. I jumped to my feet and pulled him into a hug. He was the only person who knew about my business and he supported me with what I wanted to do. I began crying again. And Jared rubbed my back gently.
"What's wrong?" He asked me.
"Mom and dad are moving to LA." I said as I finally stopped crying.
He became angry. "What, they just left you here?!" He asked.
"No I'm not alone, I have a new house mate." I said, looking at Hayden.
Jared eyes narrowed as he looked Hayden over. "Nice to meet you, I'm Danni's big brother Jared." He said, holding his hand out to Hayden.
"I'm Hayden." Hayden said, shaking his hand.
"So how long are you here for?" I asked, trying to break the tension.
"Two weeks." He said, releasing his grip and flexing his hand.
"Cool, so hows college, still living the bachelor lifestyle?" I asked, raising my eyebrows suggestively.
He looked at me in surprise. "What the-" He asked.
"Yeah, a lot of things changed since you were away. I'm not so innocent before haha." I laughed.
"What happened, did you get detention?" He asked in a high pitched voice.
"Actually she did." Hayden chuckled.
"What for?" Jared asked, looking from me to Hayden.
"Mr Redding threw me out of math." I shrugged.
"Do mom and dad know?" He asked.
I snorted. "Of course not. Do you honestly think I would still be here if they did. I would be sent to military school by now." I pointed out.
"Fair enough." He chuckled. "So what are we doing for the big 18 on Friday?" He asked.
I completely forgot that it was only three days until I turned 18. "I don't know, I completely forgot." I laughed.
"Only you." Jared said, shaking his head.
"Wait, its your birthday? Why didn't you say anything?" Hayden asked.
"Because like I just said, I completely forgot." I replied.
"So I'm going to get settled in, I'll meet you two downstairs in ten and then we're going out for tea, Danni can you help me?" Jared asked.
"Yeah," I replied, picking up my brothers guitar and carrying it up to his room.
Jared shut the door when we reached his room and turned to look at me. "I don't like you sharing a house alone with a boy." He said frowning.
"Jared," I said, pulling him into a hug and looking up at him. "I know you just want to protect me, but I'm not a little girl anymore. Me and Hayden are only friends." I said gently.
"Well he wants to be more." He sighed.
I looked up at him in surprise. "How do you know that?" I asked.
"The way he looks at you, its the same way dad used to look at mom." He said.
I sighed. I didn't know if Jared was telling the truth, but I always believed what my brother said. I mean, he was the one that had looked after me when my parents never did. The one that made sure that I never went without. I loved him more than anything and to me, his word was enough.
"Nothing will happen." I promised.
"I believe you." Jared said, dropping to his bed."So hows Driving Danni's going?" He asked.
"Really good actually, I'm working with a few off licensed racers." I said with a smile. "But its hard, Hayden is one of my clients, but his mom is friends with mom so I'm trying to hide it from him." I explained.
"Yeah, well one day you wont have to worry about mom and dad, they need to let us have our own lives instead of making sure that we end up exactly like them just so the neighbours wont judge."
My parents wag of looking at life had always been a thorn in my brothers side. He hates the fact that they put their career above their children. I understood the way Jared felt and I could always Identify with it. But where Jared had had the strength to tell my parents how he felt, I never had. That's why I hid my love of cars from them. I remembered how disappointed and angry they had been when Jared had told them he was going to study music instead of medicine and I couldn't bare to have them look at me like that. Now, it seems I didn't have that problem.
I sighed and walked out of his room. I found Hayden sitting in the living room. "Hey," I said, sitting beside him and placing my hand on his knee. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'll be okay."
