"Do you know what you want," Dalton asked. "Surprise me," I told him. I found a table and called my parents to let them know I arrived safely. Dalton sat down across from me and gave me a classic burger. I was glad he did. I was a picky eater, so it's better he didn't get anything special. "Why my letter?" I asked him, "it was so small." "That's why I chose it. I think I could have the most ordinary week with someone who writes something sweet but short," he explained. "That's not at all what I wanted to say," I told him. "I figured," he said. "How?" I asked. "You, sort of, literally said it in the letter." "Oh, yeah." We laughed.
"Can we sing a song together later? I'm a singer," I asked him. "Sing a few bars for me now," he asked. "Uhhh," I hesitated. "Are you scared?" he hustled. "I hate when people ask me to sing because I never know what song to sing and then I sit there so awkwardly trying to figure out a song. And when I'm ready they're just staring at me and it feels really weird and yeah. It's not that I'm scared or anything. Well maybe a little scared in front of YOU," I bursted. "Sing Hercules and sorry," he suggested. I did so and he smiled. "You have a very pretty voice, like my sister's almost." "Thanks."
We finished our burgers but stayed an hour later just talking. He made great conversation. "Okay, okay. If you would choose any other contestant to win besides me to win, who would it be?" he asked. "Mack," I told him. "Oh, he's cool. He was my roommate at our last hotel," he said. "He said on periscope," I smiled. This was truly a moment from my dreams.
