Percy XXXVI

As Percy limped along, every step sending jolts of pain up his broken leg, he figured out one thing, he was the worst boyfriend in the world. now normal boyfriends probably thought this after they forgot their girlfriend's birthday, or something petty like that. But he didn't have the luxury of it being something as simple as that. Percy finally understood what it felt like to people who say that their heart is breaking. there was this extreme pain in his chest that hasn't left since he walked away from Annabeth on that ledge.

"some boyfriend," he muttered to himself. "leaving your girlfriend in the depths of tartarus by herself, with no weapon, and promising her you'll meet again."

"you're a failure Jackson. Just surrender already, it will make your life easier."

"shut up!" Percy growled. "Just leave me alone already. You already got what you want!" He was getting desperate. Luke's spirit form had been following and taunting him since the ledge.

"No way, Percy," he continued. "I want you to know something." Percy stopped and turned to look at his former enemy.

"What?" he asked suspiciously. Luke drifted closer.

"You, Percy Jackson, are Just. Like. Me." he said. Percy's body completely shut down and froze. Becoming like Luke was exactly what he strove NOT to do.

"No, I'm not." Percy struggled to say. the apparition laughed. and Luke's scar rippled.

"how aren't you?" he asked. "You've been used by the gods all your life, you shelter spite and hate, and lets not forget that you've killed innocent people."

"NO!" Percy yelled. Luke tutted,

"Come now Percy, we both know that you have many ghosts. Aren't you tired? tired of being tossed around by the gods like some toy among dogs? Gaea could help you. Just join her Percy, you know that you want to. Join her and put the Olympians to shame."

Percy had to admit that he was, in fact, more than tired of being used by the gods, but one thing Luke had said nagged in the back of his mind.

we both know you have many ghosts. Now where had he heard something like that before? a memory was tugging at him in the back of his mind, but he couldn't access it. like Hera had decided to keep that one memory just to assure he had a bad day.

really? he thought. as if this wasn't bad enough. he let Luke talk, pretending to listen while he racked his brain for this piece of vital information. It wasn't hard to show interest in what he was saying, since he was trying to get into his head anyway. actually, Percy found it harder to ignore the spirit with every passing moment.

"come on Percy, you and me shared a common interest when i was alive." Luke said. Percy raised an eyebrow, humoring him, while he searched for the memory that could possibly save his life.

"Oh yeah? what was that?" he asked, actually curious to know.

'Luke' leaned so close, it was uncomfortable. Percy was afraid that Luke would pass right through his body. their noses were basically touching. Luke said,

"Annabeth." Percy clenched his fists, the pain from his broken heart spread throughout his entire body, making it hard to breathe. his memory searching was momentarily forgotten.

"That is not our common interest Luke." Percy said through clenched teeth, spitting out Luke's name. "And Annabeth is a human being, she is not classified as an interest. Don't you dare talk about her like  that again."
