Spider-man was having second thoughts. As he and Deadpool stood outside a nice cottage, he turned toward Deadpool.
"What are we doing here?" He finally asked. Deadpool was about to speak when the back door of the house slowly opened. A light flashes throughout the yard. Startled, Spider-man jumps up to the nearest tree and crouches there, waiting.
"There she is. Right on time. She doesn't even use a watch..." Deadpool said quietly to Spider-man.
They both watched the small figure in the doorway, dimly lit by the light inside. They were scanning the yard with the flashlight.
"Seriously? You're bookending this cluster-fiesta with kids and puppies?" Spider-man said in a hushed voice.
"I thought we were trying the truth on for size--" he continued but was interrupted by a soft voice.
"Daddy?" The figure spoke.
It was a little girl. She started walking toward the two.
"Saywhatnowlittlegirl?" Spider-man spoke quickly. He was confused. He didn't understand what was happening.
"Hey, Ellie-Belly."
This was so very unlike the Deadpool Spider-man knew. The little girl, Ellie, ran toward Deadpool and they embraced. Spider-man watched from above.
"How was your week?" They pulled back and Ellie smiled at him.
"I got an 'A' in social studies and Brian threw spaghetti in my hair but I didn't stab him even though I wanted to and the new Squirrel Girl comes on tonight-- can I watch it?"
She said this all in one breath. When she finished, she blew out and smiled at her dad. Spider-man started thinking. Why did Brian throw spaghetti in her hair? Why did she want to stab him? What kind of person teaches their kid to stab someone when they make you angry?
Deadpool seemed like the type of person to do that. And why did Squirrel Girl have a tv show? Where was his tv show?
"Heh, sure. After ice cream dinner. First I want you to meet someone."
Spider-man became alarmed.
"Wade, don't--"
Deadpool took Ellie's flashlight and shone it up at Spider-man.
"Uncle Spidey?!" Ellie exclaimed.
"Yeah. Uncle Spidey, this Dynamo-In-Training is Ellie." Deadpool said proudly. "My daughter."
At first, Spider-man didn't make eye contact with the child. He looked off into the distance.
"Nice to meet you, Ellie--" he realized he didn't know her last name and paused.
"You know who I am, silly! Daddy talks about you all the time!" She said. Spider-man slowly jumped down from the tree and stood in front of the two. Ellie still shone the flashlight on him.
"Did he tell you I got a medal from swimming last week?"
No one said anything for a few moments. Spider-man made eye contact with Deadpool. He never knew this side of his life. He reached up and scratched his head.
"Yeah. He did. Good job." He finally spoke.
Ellie was content with the answer she got.
