Rebecca slowly pulled into her driveway, with a car following suit not far behind. Exiting the vehicle, she shut the door gently while rummaging in her bag for her keys. She almost hit herself on the forehead when she remembered she hadn't locked the door. Turning to the other female, she smiled. "I could've sworn that Annie said Clark was coming over. So, I'm pretty sure he'll be here somewhere." Rebecca explained while Martha smiled lightly and crossed her arms loosely.
"Most likely, yes. I thought I would make my way here after I finished shopping." Martha explained. She'd gone out for the weekly grocery run and literally bumped into Rebecca, who was walking around muttering oddly to herself. Martha was a little worried for her friend, but seeing as how Rebecca had just come from the direction of the post office, she figured she'd encountered the rude clerk that worked there. "It would be pointless for me to go home, only to have Jonathan ask me where Clark is, and having to double back and come here and collect him."
"Jonathan should know by now that if he isn't at home, he's most likely here." Rebecca smiled and led the way into the quiet home. "Would you like a coffee, or tea while waiting for them to appear?" Rebecca made her way to the kitchen and sought to filling the kettle up with water. Even if Martha declined, she still intended on having a nice big cup of coffee. She felt like she needed some caffeine in her system.
"Go on then," Martha smiled and rolled her eyes, she went to sit at the dining table. Rebecca was still chatting away in the kitchen while Martha skimmed over final warning letters and all other sort of problematic notices. She smiled up at Rebecca though when she came in holding a steaming cup out to her. Martha played the part of ignorance. It wasn't her business. If Rebecca and her family were in trouble, she was sure she'd tell her. "Where are they? They've never been this quiet before." Martha said with a small frown. She looked about, all was still and quiet. Both her son and Rebecca's daughter had a habit of making a lot of noise when together. The constant laughter was a sure thing, along with the never ending chatter about anything and everything which came to mind.
"Yeah...you have a point, this is highly suspicious behaviour. I've never known Annie to be so quiet." Her daughter liked to chat, as she did too, who didn't? Looking slowly towards the stairs, she gave a slow nod. "Let's go see. Bet you anything Clark's intently reading while Annie is lazing about avoiding work."
Martha laughed gently and moved out of her seat to follow Rebecca to the stairs. "Perhaps." She commented, though truthfully, she wouldn't be surprised.
Rebecca smiled, they knew the traits and dispositions of their children very well. Clark was the focused one, Annie was the daydreamer. Though Annie seemed to spend most of her time in her own bubble, and Clark seemed focused on the here and now, and what was happening around him, they still worked as a dynamic. They bounced off each other very well. Annie's focus did get slightly sharpened whenever Clark nagged at her to do work. And he was slightly more laid back with certain things thanks to Annie's general easy going attitude.
Rebecca slowly placed a hand against the door handle, gently knocking with her other hand as she leaned against the door. "Annie? Clark?" She called out gently and quietly. Everything was still and quiet from the room beyond which caused the two mothers to exchange a bemused look. Slowly but surely, Rebecca put pressure on the handle and slowly pushed the door open a fraction. She peeked her head in and smiled slowly before looking back at Martha, who was looking at her with a confused expression. "I don't think they're studying, or even slacking off...though I suppose this does slightly count." Rebecca mused while Martha just looked at her with a raised eyebrow. She did not understand what the woman was on about.
With a smile, Rebecca moved aside and opened the door a little more for Martha to look into the room. Her confusion disappeared, and a rather content expression flitted onto her face, along with one of those genuine motherly smiles. Both Annie and Clark were fast asleep. She seemed comfortably tucked up by his side, while using one of his arms as a pillow, while his other arm had draped over her. They were facing each other, using the same pillow to sleep on.
