"Every step that I take is another mistake to you.." Zella heard the song from Linkin park. She looked up to see Nestle entering the diner answering his phone. It had always Zella's favourite song but now may be that was going to change.
Nestle looked at his watch it was a little after nine, he saw the call was from Paulina and answered with a smile, knowing it would be Ginny on the line.
"Hey there Ginny bear, why are you up? I tucked you in before I head out." Nestle asked.
"I know daddy, I just wanted to hear your voice, I had an awful nightmare and aunt Lina said nothing bad would happen but I just wanted you to assure me." Ginny sounded upset.
"You want to talk about your nightmare?" there was silence on her end she might have shook her tiny head vigorously like she always did.
"You know I cant, else it would come true." Ginny said in a whisper.
"Honey, nothing is going to go wrong anymore in our lives, we had enough of wrongs and now we are going to everything right." Nestle looked at Zella and found her frowning, he smiled at her but she just turned away wiping the already clean coffee machine.
"Sweetie, do you want me to come over?" Nestle asked closing his eyes.
"Are you doing something important?" Nestle's eyes were fixed on Zella, he didn't want to leave the diner without speaking to her, he couldn't stand her looking at him accusingly. This had to end, and it was going to end tonight.
"Daddy?" Nestle realised Ginny was still on the line.
"Yes, this is important honey." Nestle said slowly, hoping she wouldn't urge him to come home.
"Then I will see you first thing in the morning, Good night daddy." Ginny said and Nestle smiled.
"Good night Ginny bee, I love you."
"I love you too daddy." Ginny said, he cut the call and slipped the phone in his pocket and got up to use the wash room, after which he ran his hands through the collection of books she had, he took a John Grisham novel and sat down, he could see that almost everyone had gone and only a group of kids supposedly having a study session together was left. Zella saw Nestle sitting down on the couch with a book and he smiled when their eyes met. Zella signalled Patricia to see if nestle needed anything. When Patricia asked him, he just shook his head and started reading from the book. Zella was getting restless as she was cleaning up the diner. She had never seen Nestle smile while talking on the phone, the thought it might be Ginny's mother, made the bile rise in her mouth. The study group had left and Stella, Patricia and Trevor were leaving.
"So we are done for the day z.." Trevor said sliding a hand on Patricia's hips, puller her closer.
"We are heading to a pub, do you want to join Zella?" Patricia asked.
"I don't drink, do drugs or dance nor do I want to hook up with random drunk people. So you guys go ahead and do your thing. I'll see you guys tomorrow." Zella said in an even tone.
"You should get out of this diner sometimes z! Live a little, enjoy the moment, take a risk, make mistakes, learn from them." Trevor said putting a hand on Patricia's shoulder "Try something new, take a chance, get you heart pumping out of control, do the first crazy thing that pops into your head!" Zella had enough of his little advice so she started pushing them out.
"What are you doing z!" Trevor asked.
"First thing that pops in my head is to push you guys out and make you stop speakin' shit!" Trevor and Patricia left and Zella bolted the door.
