Leon threw back a shot and smirked across at Claire. "Your turn, red head." He said with a more sloppy, drunken, smile.
"I don't know, Leon. You seem pretty wasted. It's kind of sad I can hold my liquor better than you." Claire's words were only sightly slurred as she spoke. She was better at holding her liquor, that was for sure. Leon refused to accept defeat though.
"Nah, you must be giving up, Redfield." Leon's words were so slurred Claire was almost positive he would be throwing up soon.
Claire rolled her eyes and threw back another shot. "Alright." She said after taking a breath. "But after you take that last shot we are done, you are drunk and I need to get you home before I end up unable to navigate myself."
Leon sighed and threw back his last shot. He then stood up and looked at Claire. "I need to take a leak, then we can go." He walked off towards the bathroom as Claire rested her cheek on her hand.
Two hours before...
"Leon?" Claire stepped into the bar smiling. "I've been looking for you. You didn't say you'd leave your apartment without me. I got worried." She sat beside him. She looked him over, he didn't look drunk but he was drinking a glass of whiskey.
"Two shots." Leon said putting his glass down. He looked at Claire as the bartender got the shots out and started pouring drinks. "I bet I can hold down more than you and I won't get drunk as fast."
"Leon you've already been drinking." Claire stated.
"So? I'm a heavy drinker."
Claire sighed not believing him for a moment. "Winner has to walk loser home." She glanced at him already knowing she was going to have to walk him home.
"Deal." He said picking up his first shot.
Current time.
Claire tapped her fingers on the rim of her water glass waiting for Leon to come out of the bathroom.
"You're boyfriend really is something, isn't he?" The bartender said looking at her.
Claire sipped her water and shook her head, "He isn't my boyfriend, although I wish he was." She glanced in the way of the bathroom. "I feel he loves another so I just sit by idly and wait."
"Wait for what?"
"I don't know..." She trailed off seeing Leon. He gave her a drunk smile which told Claire it was time to go. "Put it on my tab. I'll come back and pay everything tomorrow when I know I'm sober."
"Alright." The bartender said.
Claire stood up and walked to Leon who nearly fell into her as he walked towards the door. "Oh but you're a heavy drinker." She mumbled under her breath.
Claire was walking a little in front of Leon, and he couldn't help but look at her butt. He snickered and Claire looked back at him. "What are you snickering at?" She asked. She stopped in front of his apartment building.
"Nothing." He said with a straight face looking into her eyes. "I just wish we would hang out more often. I enjoy your company." He looked up at the sky.
"I'm alright with that." Claire opened the door to his apartment building.
"Come up with me? I wouldn't feel right letting you walk home even slightly drunk." Leon gave her a soft smile.
Claire sighed and waited for Leon to walk in, "Only until I sober up a bit more. Then I'm off."
"Alright." Leon said walking in.
Claire was quiet the whole way up to Leon's apartment. Leon was kind of curious why. He was still curious one why she wasn't his yet too.
"Claire can I talk to you about something really personal?" He asked as they walked into his apartment.
"Not until you take a shower." Claire said raising an eyebrow. "You smell heavily of liquor."
"Pft, you do too." Leon said.
"But this isn't my house."
"Fair enough. After I'm done we'll talk."
"Deal."
Claire nearly nodded off waiting for Leon to get out of the shower. When he came out shirtless, Claire was shocked and she had to resist from staring at his six pack.
Don't stare Redfield, just friends. Just friends. Just. Friends.
"Hey." He said seating himself beside her.
"So what do you want to talk about?" She asked looking at him.
"God I feel like I'm in high school again." He said scratching the back of his neck. "I have this girl I'm in love with and I have no idea how to make her mine. I'm not even sure if she knows I love her like I do."
Claire frowned internally KNOWING it was about the Ada woman he had met back in Raccoon City. "Well, you just gotta tell her man." Claire smiled at him.
"You think so?" He asked.
"Mhm." She nodded holding her fake and sad smile.
"I love you Claire."
Claire blinked then looked at Leon. Her heart picked up pace. Surely reality was lying to her. "M-me?!" She asked looking at him. "L-Leon I..." She looked away blushing. "I love you too."
