"I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
...
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears"

It was the afternoon when Chuck, Thomas, Newt, Zart and I were near an old stump trying to cut it down. I had told Thomas about Newt and I a little bit ago and he just smiled and laughed saying it was about time. Since I had told him about the vision when he loved me he kept waiting for when I would tell Newt about them.

Chuck and I were sculpting little pieces of wood from small parts of the stump that had been cut off already. I had an apple in my hand and here and there I would take bites out of it, as well as Newt making me toss it to him to take a couple small ones himself. It felt nice, feeling like I wasn't missing someone. Maybe this time we could make a new story of us, I could at least try and forget a little bit about the past.

"What are you making Chucky?" I asked, trying to shake my thoughts.

"I'm not sure yet...maybe just a little creature. I want to make something to give to my parents or someone when we get out," he said.

"You could chip a hole and put a piece of string in it and make it a necklace. That way you can't lose it," I pointed out, biting into my apple.

"Maybe...what are you making?"

"This is my like third tiny wood sculpture. I don't know what this one is going to be yet but we'll find out soon enough."

"Why don't you make a little heart or something and give it to Newt? I would be an accurate representation." Thomas laughed. I smacked his head.

"Shut up. You know when we get out and you get a girlfriend I'll give you ice chunks shaped like hearts and say this is how cold and hard his heart is. But a wooden heart is still softer than an ice cold one." I joked.

"It is so easy to tell you guys are siblings." Chuck laughed.

"So, Why would Alby go into the Maze?" Thomas suddenly asked Newt. "I mean he's not- he's not a Runner." Newt stopped whacking his machete and turned his head to look over at Thomas. I stopped carving and looked up, waiting to see how Newt would respond.

"Things are different now. Alby went to retrace Ben's footsteps before sundown. Look, are you gonna help?"

"Okay, so he's gonna go back to where Ben was just-"

"Thomas, please don't start a fight again..." I tried.

"You should know an argument is about to start the second your brother starts talking," Chuck reminded.

"Seems like it..." I replied with a sigh.

"Alby know what he's doing. Alright? He's better than any of us." Thomas looked at the ground and Newt hit the stump again.

"What does that mean?" Thomas continued. Newt stopped once more scratching the back of his head and taking a couple steps toward Thomas.

"Alright, it's like you've heard, yeah? Every month the box sends up a new arrival, or in your case two Greenies. But someone has to be first, right? Someone had to spend a whole month in the Glade alone...and that was Alby. I mean it can't be easy. But once those boys started coming up one after the other he saw the truth and he learned that the most important thing is that we all have each other, cause we're all in this together."
