Chapter 5: The Shadow Realm

  I opened my eyes and it was like the same when we had gone into the portal. I saw Towairaito swimming over to what appeared to be the shadow realm. I looked over at Paparu and Jakki and saw that they were also opening their eyes. I swam over to Twilight and she made a signal that looked like 'follow me'. I followed her and landed on the floor hard. I groaned and slowly got up. 'Now I know what it feels like,' I thought and Jakki and Paparu landed next to me as well. Now that we were in the shadow realm I could get a look at Towairaito. Her sleek black hair was in a ponytail and also covered her left eye. Her purple sweater went all the way down past her waist and the sleeves stopped at her elbows. She wore dark blue jeans and purple sneakers. At her hip there was a sword and a sheath.

  I looked at my surroundings next and gasped at the sight in front of me. Saying what I saw was beautiful was a bit of an understatement. All the myths and legends were far from what I saw. The sky was filled with stars, twinkling in the sky, and the moon cast its light over the shadow realm, which shined brightly like the sun. I looked over at the grassy area and saw that the grass was a dark shade of green and kids in black, gray, purple and all dark shades of the rainbow were playing. But it wasn't like they were all gloomy. There clothes either had a strip or a splash of color on them. I saw a group kids whispering to each other and then ran over to us. They got in a line and made a rainbow with the words 'WELCOME!' on them. I smiled sweetly at them and they ran away after that. I looked at all the houses and shops. The shops and houses were all black and gray but they had rainbow graffiti on them to spruce up the place. In the center was a statue of a woman who had a bow and arrow. All in all it was gorgeous.

  "Come on. Let's go to the infirmary." Towairaito said, motioning us to follow her. I was a bit in a daze from what I saw and so were Inez -Paparu- and Jackie -Jakki- but we followed her none the less. The trees bark were black and the eaves were gray but it still looked beautiful. We stopped in front of a two story building which was full on black.The doors were glass and as we walked in the temperature had chilled a little. All around us people were in nursing beds and hospital clothes. Most of them were wearing bandages and some of those bandages were stained red. Most of the curtains were closed either for privacy or something else I didn't want to think about. We stopped in front of a certain curtain and Towairaito opened it. We all looked inside to find out...the bed was empty!

  "WHERE IS HE??!!" Towairaito yelled and a girl came over. She had gray hair in a ponytail which had a black and white butterfly in it. She wore a black long-sleeved shirt that had a red medic sign stitched into the left arm. She also wore gray pants and white tennis shoes. She had a necklace around her neck that had a small bottle which seemed to have powdery ash. "Towairaito calm down! And what do you mean by 'WHERE IS HE'?" She said before glancing at the empty bed. "WHERE IS HE??!!" She yelled. "That's basically what I'm asking!" "Well he was here just a minute ago when I checked on him!" I looked back and forth at them as they got into a heated argument. "Hey Slider? Do you think they're talking about him?" Jackie whispered into my ear. I looked behind me to see Jackie and Inez leaning in as if I was telling them a big secret.

  I nodded my head. I didn't really plan on telling them about my dream that had turned into a nightmare. I heard the argument settle down and looked at the girls. "Sorry about that guys. Guess he ran off and is probably at the training place. Anyway, this is Ashley-"

  "Ash." Ash said in a stern and serious voice. "Ash. Anyway, she's one of the main medics here in the infirmary because she's a herbalist." "I think you should be looking for him right now, by the way." I spun around to see a girl - woman? lady? I don't know - standing there. Or so I thought. She was hovering a few inches off the ground. She had long black and light blue hair, as well as side bangs, that went all the way to her knees. She wore a dark green mask, a white hooded sweater, jeans, and black sneakers. But the weirdest thing was her eyes. Her right eye was the same color as her hair and in the same pattern as well - black on the top and blue on the bottom. Her left eye was blood red with slits that reminded me of a cat or a vampire. "Tina? What are you doing here?" Towairaito asked, stepping in front of me. 'Tina' shrugged and said, "Just wanted to come by and tell you that. Also to say that if you haven't, and I'm looking at you readers, you should check out Anna Le's story called 'The Guardian of the Angel Sword'!" And she disappeared with that sentence leaving all of us confused. Towairaito sighed and signaled us to come with her.
