[] For some strange reason, on the original document that I've written on has a mix up with the chapters, so if there is any mix up with a chapter (names, titles) please keep this in mind! (UPDATE JANUARY 12, 2017: THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED)

Also, the media panel is all fixed, so please listen to it while you read! It's one of my favorite instrumentals. Don't forget to look at the cool picture behind the media (click the right arrow). I'm all over the place, and I'll almost up-to-date with planning a special bonus chapter for the 500 reads! I'm so glad, and thank you all dearly for keeping up with my fanfiction -! :) []

Chapter Seventeen

Maxon smiled, looking at me fondly. "I suppose it's rather obvious I suspected it was you." He gently used his thumb to wipe a tear from my eye.

I gently laughed. "Yeah, I guessed that when you asked me to tell me about the dear lady who stole your heart," I sent him a sly grin as I looked down at my pale hand resting on the cool railing.

Maxon chuckled softly. "Well, even if you hadn't been the real America, Veronikka had personally told me that you would be very understanding to anything I wanted to tell you about." He winked, his brown eyes twinkling.

We stood in silence for a moment our gazes on the beautiful night sky, but our eyes occasionally flickered to the other.

"Do you remember before that last rebel attack?" He broke the silence. "I wanted to talk to you, remember?"

I nodded, not sure where this was going.

"Well, I had wanted to ask you to be Chase's permanent nanny."

My eyes widened.

"I knew that his old nanny Alyse had been coming back, but he had gotten really attached to you," he told me with a kind smile. "But then... with everything," I blushed, "I knew you wouldn't have said yes if I asked, even if you had wanted to. So," he raised and eyebrow at me, smiling. "Would you like to be his nanny again?"

I grinned. "Of course!"

He chuckled softly. "Okay, Eager Beaver, how would you feel if I asked you to start again tomorrow?"

If it was possible, I grinned wider. "Well, I would say yes!"

He smiled. "Chase will be glad you're back as his nanny."

I smiled. "And I'm glad to be his nanny."

"I thought you would," he told me, and we smiled at each other before lapsing back into silence.

Maxon was first to break the quiet again. "I, um, meant what I said earlier. When I told you about how I... uh, loved you." Maxon told me softly. "It wasn't... it wasn't just a trick or something to get you to reveal yourself or something," he told me hastily.

I smiled. "I was scared, really. I was having paranoid thoughts about that lady not being me. I'm not jealous or anything, I was just... Er, I thought I didn't know you as well as I thought if you were courting some other girl."

Oh no! I totally come off as jealous! I feel like I'm in some soap opera....

"America, I've only been with two women in my whole entire life. Would I make sense if I actually did what you thought I did?" He asked, leaning on the railing.

As I looked up, his face was just a few inches away from mine. Out of instinct, I leaned backward.

"N-No, but, who's the second one? It's just Queen Kriss. I didn't think you had a secret relationship with her." I scratched the back of my head. From all the broadcasts on the Report, I would've caught a small hint that he was.
