Speedy

"This rain is stressing me out!"

"Calm down, Sidey. Everything's okay-"

"Woah!", Side screamed as we drove over something. I pressed on the brake as soon as possible, making the tires screech in the night.

"I think we hit something!", Side cried.

"Wait, let me park on the side of the road, maybe we can try to see if anything happened."

I parked nicely on the side, in case anyone would happen to drive by, even if it was nighttime and extremely dangerous on the roads. I grabbed a flashlight and Sidearms grabbed his phone to use as a light source. We both got out in the pourring rain, getting drenched as soon as we stepped outside the van.

"I'll check if anything happened to the West, you check what we hit", I indicated Side. He nodded and jogged towards the back of the Westfalia while I checked the tires and the front, looking for a flat or maybe a bump in the van. I found nothing so I went back inside and waited for Side. A minute later, Side entered the van. He was crying.

"Is everything okay, Sidey?"

He sniffed. "We hit a cat..."

I pouted at him and hugged him. "It's fine, Side, it was just a cat."

"It was a mom... She was pregnant, Speedy", Side cried.

"I'm sorry, Sidey. It's okay now. How about we try to dry our clothes?", I asked as I pulled away from his small frame.

He nodded and walked to the back of the van, changing his clothes. I tried to find any towels that we may have, finding none, so I had to change clothes too.

When we were dry, I sat back in the driver's seat and we continued our trip, carefully this time. Side popped in one of the cassettes that read 'rainy days' and calm music started playing. It was rather calming for the crazy weather, it was perfect.

-

Almost an hour passed before Side paused the music. I looked his way and he was leaning toward the windshield, squirting his eyes.

"There are people there, Speedy", he pointed at the road. I looked and saw two persons holding their thumbs up.

"Should we stop?", I proposed.

"I don't know, maybe they are dangerous people", Side shook his head.

"But it's raining cows outside, and it's late at night. Maybe they need a ride, Side."

"I don't know! Just...decide quickly because we will pass them."

I slowed down and ranged the van to the side. When I went to a stop, I saw the two people making their way to the door. I got up and opened the door ajar.

"Hey man, me and my friend would really use a ride right now", one of the two men spoke.

"How can I be sure to trust you?", I spoke carefully.

"You can't, but we're not harmful, we just need a ride because this rain is getting crazier by the moment", the same man said.

I eyes the two, looking them up and down. They seemed pretty young, around me and Side's age. They didn't seem dangerous either.

"You got gas money?"

"Yeah man, of course. We will pay you that's for sure. That is if you let us in", the same man said.

I opened the door and stepped aside. "Come in."

"Thank you, man", he said.

"Thanks, feller!", the other one said.
