twenty four

      I hesitantly picked up my phone as it vibrated on the kitchen counter. I sighed, running my hand through my hair.

      "Damnit," I huffed, hitting the large green button. I heard a sigh come from the other line, then a short pause.

      "Hey, Rose." His voice was strained, a tone of disappointment striking me in the heart.

      "Simon. Hi."

      "I heard about what happened with your mom. I'm really sorry."

      "Yeah. That's alright."

      "I also heard that...you were in England."

      "I meant to tell you earlier, Simon. It's just...all that's been going on at home...I wanted to get as far away as possible." My eyes darted up, hearing a rustling sound coming from Dan's bedroom.

      "We really miss you, Rose. It feels like you've been gone forever." It really did feel like forever. And the truth was, I missed home too. I was alone in England, with a person that pulls down walls faster than he builds them back up. I was homesick, but I wasn't about to leave something I had started.

      His door opened slowly, the hinges screaming. I frantically jumped onto the pull out bed that was once a couch.

      "I gotta go bye." I stammered out with no punctuation. I clicked my phone off and shrouded myself with blankets. I could feel his warmth next to my bed, his stare burning through the blankets. I could hear his breaths, the shuffling of his feet walking around to the other side of the couch. Once again, silence.

      Then, I could feel the space next to me dip, the duvet I was under fluttering in the air. I heard the cracking of his bones as he laid next to me, facing me. I groaned, quickly turning onto my back. I could feel his breath on my neck, and I could hear his heart beat. I could still feel his stare on my back. The warmth of his hand on my hip almost made me jump. He slid it down, hugging my waist with just one arm.

      I pretended to have to conscious of his actions, and swatted away his hand gently. I turned onto my side again, facing him once more, my eyes still closed. I slowly opened one lid, seeing his chocolate brown eyes on me. I opened he other, meeting his gaze.

      "Wanna go see a film tonight?"
