XI
"JACOB"

3rd Person

Through the wide doors of the New York City Institute appeared the eldest of the Lightwoods' children, Alec. Behind him was nothing but darkness as the sky was engulfed by dark, grey clouds that poured droplets of water over the city with much speed.

The outside would occasionally get lit by the natural electric light well known to mundanes as lighting. It was almost as if the sky was crying for Katherine, feeling the pain and despair that was surely taking over the conflicted Shadowhunter who held her.

He walked as fast as his legs aloud him, trying to get to the main room of what to non-members of the Shadow World looked like an abandoned church. His clothes were heavy and just as his hair, they were soaking wet due to the rain.

The weather reminded him of the day Katherine suffered one of her biggest losses, a loss that he himself was present to see. The reason as to why Katherine shut most people out and why she forbid herself to feel, to be happy.

Alec's legs gave up on him just as he got to his destination. The man was shivering because of how cold his wet clothes made him feel. A few fellow Shadowhunters turned around to look at the scene but no one really paid attention until Alec made themselves noticeable.

"Help! Someone! She needs help!" He screamed at the top of his lungs. Those 5 words were all it took for the Clave envoy and Alec's fianceé, accompanied by probably a dozen other Shadowhunters, to surround the man in his 20's.

They all gathered around the two soldiers. It took them a couple of seconds to process who it was and what was really happening. During the period of those few seconds all the gold blooded people surrounding them did nothing else but stare at the two.

Analysing every little detail of the scene that looked as if being picked out of a movie. Those seconds felt like an eternity to Alec, he was certain that the more time it passed, harder it was going to be for Katherine to recover from such injury.

"Do something!" He screamed at no one in particular. He was extremely afraid because this occasion was not like the last one that he also had an unconscious Katherine on his arms. This time things were extremely different.

Alec was so afraid this time mainly because of the evidence that showed how serious the injuries of his sister's parabatai were. Evidence that unwillingly stained Alec's hands.

Lydia reacted to Alec's panic "You two, take her down to the nursery. Now! Move!" She demanded with leadership. As unbreakable as she wanted to look, Katherine reminded Lydia about her late husband.

About the story she told not only Katherine but Alec, trying to teach them that for a Shadowhunter loving is no blessing but a curse. A curse that shatters one's soul and spirit to pieces, pieces that never get fully repaired once they've been separated.

She watched as Katherine got carried off Alec's grip and further inside the Institute. From the corner of her eye was clearly visible how Alec looked heartbroken at Katherine in the distance.

For a moment she felt bad for accepting Alec's proposal, knowing that the person he really loves is literally in front of him. She stared directly at Alec, seeing the salty, clear tears roll down his already wet cheeks, combining with the drops of rainwater that were still on his face.
