CALUM POV
The next day I woke up, wishing last night was a dream. It was a long weekend so I had these few days to have to entertain him. But yet as soon as I stepped into the hallway, I heard Thor's piercing laugh echoing through the house. I jogged downstairs and saw the two guys eating breakfast. Uncle Kent was dressed in a suit for work and Thor was in jeans and a sweatshirt.
"What's up in the agenda for you two today?" Uncle Kent asked as he took a final sip of his coffee. "Uuh- maybe some tourist things today, like the monuments and stuff?" I suggested. Thor rolled his eyes, "Calum you sound like my grandparents. What happened to the fun crazy you?" He provoked. Uncle Kent looked at Thor, "He's here with me." Uncle Kent answered. He looked at the two of us, "Do what you want, but don't get into too much trouble, please? I'll be home by 6." He said, grabbing his keys and heading out.
I looked at Thor awkwardly, scratching the back of my head, "So," I said, rocking on my heels. "Why don't you call up that chick and have her bring a friend, then we can have fun." He suggested, leaning back in his chair. I sighed, "Again, do not call Scarlett a 'chick' if I have to say it again you won't be happy. Also no, we're not going to do that, Scarlett is the president's daughter, she can't just come out any time." I snapped, getting frustrated with Thor, questioning how I ever once hung out with him on a daily basis. "Fine let's go with your original plan then, let's see the sites." He said.
SCARLETT POV
I was a little sad that Calum didn't come over today but Kent said he had a friend visiting him. Calum wasn't answering any of my texts but i figured he was just busy. When I was watching a movie, I started flipping through my phone when I saw something that caught my eye. It was Calum, another boy who I assumed was his friend, and two girls, arms around the boy's necks. The worst part was that it was on Calum's account. So he couldn't text me but could take the time to take photos with other girls and post them online? I thought bitterly, staring at the photo.
I felt a knot in the pit of my stomach, jealousy and I didn't like it. There was a knock at the door, pulling me out of my green thoughts. "Scarlett?" My mother called. "Come in." I replied back, putting down my phone. My mom came in and took a seat on the bed, "Where's Calum?" She asked. I sighed, "Out with friends." I replied bitterly. Mom's face looked concerned and she stroked my hair maternally, "What's wrong?" She asked. "I feel stupid for feeling like this but I've texted Calum a few times with no answer, and then I go online and see he posted a photo with his friend and two girls." I told her, the bad feelings swirling again. She gave me an understanding look, "Hey it's okay to feel jealous sometimes hun, and maybe the friend wanted to meet with those girls. He really likes you sweetheart, you have nothing to worry about." She told me. I smiled a little, "Thanks Mom."
"So I actually came in here to ask you if you'd mind to come to this little dinner party we're having with the governors." She asked. "Sure, I have nothing else to do." I admitted. Mom smiled, "Okay great, and Henry is coming so please just be polite, his father is important." She asked. Henry Wendl, the governor of Virginia's son, the guy Mom suggested I date before I ran off. "Okay, I'll be pleasant." I agreed. "Thank you Scarlett." She kissed my forehead before leaving.
Once I was alone again, I thought of something. Calum doesn't know Henry, just like I didn't know those girls. This was when I turned the tables on him.
---BREAK--
The party was formal so I went with a dress that was black on top and floral on the bottom, and tied my hair into a sock bun. I applied some light makeup and headed down to the ballroom.
The room was fairly crowded when I arrived, everyone dressed to the nines. My father was wearing a black suit and bow tie. I smiled and headed over to him, "Scarlett you look lovely." He responded with a proud smile. "Thanks Dad." I replied, hugging him.
We talked for a few moments before he got called over by some politician. I wandered to the food table and found Henry over there. Seeing as my Dad has always been in politics even before becoming president, I knew many of the kids of politicians, including Henry. Until puberty, I towered over him, but now it was the opposite. Henry was handsome for sure, but he never attracted me further than just physical, especially now that I knew and was with Calum.
"Beaufork you're looking as pretty as always." Henry complimented me with a charming smile. "Thanks Henry, you don't look to bad yourself, especially now that you actually are taller than me." He teased. "Hey, hey, you were never that much taller than me, only when you wore those baby heels." He teased back with a playful smile.
We chatted for a while, we always got along well, but I couldn't help but still think about Calum. I tried to force it out of my head, so I could just enjoy the night.
A photography came up to us as we talked and asked for a picture. "Sure," Henry replied easily, throwing an arm around my shoulder. We smiled, and the photographer snapped the photo before heading off to take more pictures.
The rest of the night went well, and I managed to have some fun.
CALUM POV
The next morning I woke up exhausted from the previous day. I was dying to text Scarlett all day but Thor took my phone. He dragged me all over the place, trying to find some girls despite my protests. He finally found girls who could tolerate him and he begged someone to take our photo.
I felt like I was in a dream all day. Months earlier, yesterday would have been a blast, that was my exact idea of fun. But now, after meeting Scarlett, my feelings changed. I didn't want to cause trouble or be with random girls. The girls were nice, but they weren't Scarlett, no one could compete with her.
I stepped outside to get the newspaper when I saw what the headline read. 'First Daughter and Virginia Governor are the buzz of the Annual Governor's Dinner.' Right below it was a picture of Scarlett with some guy who had his arm wrapped around her, around my girlfriend. I couldn't read the article, I was so mad. I wanted to know who this guy was, and wanted to let him know that she was off limits to him.
But first I needed to talk to Scarlett, and see how she was, to wither down my worries of her with another guy. When I called her though, she didn't answer, in fact it stopped ringing after just a few rings, meaning she ignored it.
