It was noon the next day and the two boys were walking side by side in their pajamas on a road. "We can go to my parents house if you want. Phil suggested. Dan shook his head. "No, that's too far to walk and we can't go back to the house because my mum is waiting for us both." Phil looked at a nearby car sitting in front of a shop. "What about a cab, or we could order an Uber driver!" Dan looked to Phil. "Do you have money? Cause I don't..." Phil looked back down at the ground thinking harder. "Do you at least have your cell phone?" He asked desperately. Dan only sighed. Phil shrugged. "I've got nothing left, Dan. I mean we haven't got any money, neither of us have a cell phone on us, we can't go back home because your mum is there." Phil teared up. "We might as well just give up!" Phil began to cry again. Suddenly he felt a hand grab his and he followed the other arm up to Dan. Silence fell over Phil and he continued to walk.
It was about an hour later that the two of them saw a small gas station on the corner of a road. As both looked at the gas station they stopped and turned heads to each other. "Are you sure you don't have any money Phil?..." Dan held his stomach and tilted his head. Phil checked his pockets once more and he felt something. He looked at Dan and pulled out a 1 dollar bill. "It's all we got but it's something!" He spoke with his voice full of hope. As they walked in together holding hands the cashier began his typical welcome saying in a boring voice. "Hello, welcome to- .....uhhh..gentlemen we aren't..uhhh...we don't...we can't sell anything currently, sorry!" The man stared at Dan and Phil's hands. They looked at each other and immediately released the other's hand. "No we are....brothers...uhh we......n-no homo!" Dan screamed. Phil looked at Dan and looked down and repeated his words. "Yeah..no homo..." The cashier wasn't very convinced. "Gentlemen can I see your identifications?" The man asked. Dan's shoulders dropped. "C-can we just..." He looked at the phone and realized something. "CAN WE BORROW THE PHONE FOR A MINUTE PLEASE?!" Phil was startled by Dan's sudden outburst. "B-be my guest." The cashier spoke in fear that if he didn't allow them to use the phone Dan would kill him. Dan ran over to the phone and began dialing a number. "Pick up, pick up please, please, please...." he whispered with the phone to his ear. "HELLO!?.....CONNOR, ITS ME DAN!!....oh sorry, look, Phil and I had to get out of the house for-...." He looked over at the cashier who immediately went back to pretending to do work. Dan continued. "Reasons....and we're at the gas station a little down the road from the movie theater...will you come pick us up please.....thank you so much Connor!!" And with that he hung up the phone and grabbed Phil's arm and ran out the door. "DAN WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?" Phil asked confused. Dan turned around. "I remember Connor tweeted me the other day saying he'd be in town for the next 3 weeks and I figured he could help!" Dan cracked a smile. "Wait so Connor....is a coming to pick us up...right now?" Phil asked on astonishment. Dan nodded his head and began smiling wider. Phil stared at Dan for a while noticing the small scar on his lip and the many bruises on his forehead. He sighed and grabbed Dan's hand once more and began walking him out to the curb.
