It was never too hard, really.
Jake would wake up, and go to the guest room. Wake up Aleks, then get into the daily routine. Aleks was usually silent, not speaking much. Sometimes the silence would be preferred, but other times it was uncomfortable. Jake tried to shade out the past, but failed. Occasionally sneaking looks at Aleks, and occasionally getting caught. Jake only received a blank, confused stare in return.
He couldn't stop.
Jake would look at his old Skype messages, smiling fuzzily. And the mood would be ruined after he realized that Aleks was a completely different person now. Everything that happened in the past was gone- or, at least, gone to Aleks.
"When can I get my memory back?" Aleks mused one day, snuggling into a fuzzy blue blanket. He was staring at the television, as they were in the living room.
"After I think you can take it." Jake muttered back, sitting on the couch next to him. Aleks gave an annoyed look to Jake. "I'm ready-" "No, you're not." Jake interrupted, in a soft but short tone. Aleks pouted to himself slightly, and looked away. Sunlight filtered in from the windows, making the place brighter than usual.
"If I sit on my ass, like I have been doing, then I don't think I'll prove to you my worth or whatever." Aleks grumbled. A small smirk made its way onto Jake's face. "You're right. I have an idea." Aleks looked at him questioningly. "Work for me, then we'll see." Aleks looked even more confused.
"I work with a group... Similar to the others you've experienced, I guess. But we work more with business decisions, gaining money..." Jake hesitated before continuing. "We also work with... Less legal sales. And it can be pretty violent. But, point is, I've been needing another person to... Deliver. Up for it?"
Jake analyzed Immortal carefully, eyes running up and down his figure. Aleks's lips were pursed, deep in thought. "It's one of the less difficult jobs." Jake added in.
"... I'll get my memory back, right?" Aleks asked quietly, only to receive a shrug from Jake. "I don't know. We'll see."
The question left Aleks slightly annoyed, but he decided to ask one more thing. "Is there anything else- I'm fucking serious, ANYTHING- that I can do instead of drug trafficking?"
Jake stared at Aleks, taking in every little detail. "If you're up for it." He said. Aleks nodded, prodding on to figure out what he had to do.
"I have to go for a money run. If you want, you can come with me." Aleks was dumbfound. A money run? Going to an ATM and back. How was that the equivalent of drug trafficking? He didn't ponder on it too much, instead blurting out a clumsy, "I'll do it!"
Jake smiled. "We're going later tonight, take a shower and eat before we leave." Aleks rolled his eyes. "Yes, mother." He muttered. They resumed to their previous positions, Aleks sinking into the blue fuzzy blanket. He seemed somewhat comfortable. Taking advantage of the situation, Jake snuck a look at Aleks. Scooting a bit closer to him, Jake put his arm around Aleks.
Aleks stiffened, muscles tensing. His cheeks were visibly red, but his head was tilted away, not looking at Jake. Not taking the hint, Jake leaned closer, close enough to smell the hints of cinnamon on Aleks (Jake was teaching Aleks how to cook earlier). The Russian didn't relax, his blush deepening. "Jake?"
Jake smirked, and leaned on Aleks, curling against him. The hug was amorous, comfortable. The silence in the room became apparent, the only sound being the buzz of the television. Looking up lazily, Aleks was staring down at Jake intently- unnervingly.
"Never had a hug before?" Jake asked humorously, a genuine smile splattered on his face beautifully. Aleks looked away quietly, a sigh then escaping him. "I don't know." Jake frowned. "I mean, from what you can remember."
