(For those who didn't read the last chapter here's the summary: Rori finally tells Christian about her abusive past)
Recap: There was just one question still remaining on my mind. "What about Olivia?"
********************************************
Before she could answer her cell rang. She glanced at the screen. "I have to take it." She grabbed the cell and walked into the bedroom.
"What happened? Okay. I'll be there in 10 minutes." She walked out, picking her jacket from the couch. "I have to go. We'll talk about this later."
"Okay. Do you want me to drop you somewhere?"
"Actually yeah, Mount Sinai hospital." My eyes widened and I grabbed my keys and slipped some shoes on before following Rori to the car. In the car her impatience was evident as she bounced her leg, and chewed on her lip. I had barely parked when she jumped out the car and ran towards the entrance.
"Olivia Greensmith. Which room is she in?" Rori asked frantically.
"Paediatric ward, 4th floor. Room 450," Rori thanked her quickly and ran towards the elevator. Today I had seen the many emotions of Rori, this motherly concern was a new one. We ran down the hallways till we found Donny and Gillian sitting outside the room.
"Dad!" She cried.
"Rori! I don't know what happened. One minute we were watching the penguins the next she had collapsed on the ground next to me. I rushed her here as soon as possible but the doctors said they're still running tests so they won't allow me to go inside." Just as they were hugging a doctor exited Olivia's room.
"What happened to her?" Rori asked.
"What relation are you to the child?" He asked.
"I'm her mother for gods sake now just tell me what is the diagnosis?"
"Olivia has an inflamed heart. Has she had the flu lately?"
"Yeah she just recovered from it, why?"
"Well it seems the virus has infected her heart and is pumping blood slower than normal. The virus is spreading to her liver as well. I have started her on some anti inflammatory medication as well as antibiotics for her heart, unfortunately her liver is deteriorating too quickly and she's going to need a transplant or she could die. Are you willing to donate a section of your liver?" The doctor asked. At those words Rori started crying.
"She's not really my daughter, I mean she is. She's adopted so we don't have the same blood type. I already got her tested. Her biological parents were drug addicts with an unreliable family history, so I have no idea what she could be allergic to, or any other underlying problems." Olivia was adopted? She looked so much like Rori, it could have fooled anyone. I was certain Rori had moved on when I saw that little girl in her arms and jealously flared within me. All these years I still held on to the idea that she would come back to me and we continue where we left off. Of course too much time and history had passed that starting afresh was the only option we had left.
"Are any of you here AB negative? I admit it's a shot in the dark here asking for that blood type since it is quite rare, her best chance was her mother, but since you say she's a drug addict it's unlikely it'll be usable." My heart dropped as I heard the doctor utter those words. I was A positive so I knew there was no way I could donate, and by the looks of the grim faces around me neither could Donny or Gillian. "I've put her on the donor list, we just have to wait."
"Doctor..." Rori took a deep breath. "If we don't find a donor, how long does she have?" I could see she was trying not to have another breakdown as she said those words.
