Four days. It's been four days, since Monday, and I still haven't gotten my answer from Triple H--even though our event is coming up soon. Sure, I know he doesn't want me to have a rematch against Brock, but that doesn't mean he should stay so silent about it.
Well, at least it's Friday. And this is the last time this week I have to listen to Paul Heyman drone on in English class.
"Mr. Cena," said Paul Heyman, staring at me. "Will you answer the question? If you want to continue your streak of being a straight-A student, I suggest you spend less time daydreaming in class."
I stared back at him, an idea forming. If Triple H won't give me an answer...maybe I could go to the next best source.
The bell rung soon after I answered his question. "I will see you all on Monday. Don't forget the homework," Paul said as we left the class.
I walked up to Paul's desk while everyone else walked out. "Mr. Heyman, I need to ask you something. Brock still holds the school championship, and he doesn't seem to have an opponent for our next event."
Paul sighed. "I'm only a teacher, Mr. Cena. And if you want to ask questions about wrestling, perhaps you should go to Principal Hunter."
"Trust me, I already asked Triple H. He's not giving me an answer. You've been working with Brock lately, can't you decide this?"
"Perhaps my student, Brock Lesnar, does not want a match against you, Mr. Cena. Did you think about that?"
Paul was irritating me more by the minute. "A champion needs to be a fighter. A champion needs to be willing to step up to the plate and accept challenges from anyone who comes. Is Brock that kind of champion, Paul?"
Paul grabbed his bag and stepped away from his desk. "Well, perhaps I could talk to my student, and see what--"
I know I shouldn't have done it, but I grabbed his arm. He started to panic, yelling about how he was 'only a teacher' and that I shouldn't do this. I know I shouldn't be. But I couldn't take his talk anymore. "Look, Mr. Heyman. I need my rematch. Brock may choose not to show up for practices, but at the night of champions, he'll have to come. Because Brock is the champ right now, and he needs to put his title on the line. And it'll be against me."
Paul gulped. "You want a match, John? Against my student, the Beast, Brock Lesnar?"
I nodded, and let him go. He stepped back, and started edging towards the door. "You will be suplexed, John Cena. Brock Lesnar will beat you as hard as he did at Summerslam, but...if it's a match you want, perhaps I could sway Principal Hunter's decision. I'm only a teacher, but I might be able to make a decision. Just stay away from Brock Lesnar and I."
I came out of the classroom, and I saw Dean Ambrose smirking at me. "You made Heyman run away in fear. Nice."
"You saw that?"
"Oh, yeah. Good to see you're not being such a goody-two-shoes."
"I was just getting annoyed that no one would give me an answer about the match."
"Right, right. Well, see you." And with that, Dean was gone.
What was that about? Was he actually...congratulating me on losing my cool with Paul?
I started walking the opposite way from Dean, still watching the spot where he disappeared into the crowd--and then I accidentally ran straight into a group of people.
No--not just any group of people. Girls.
"Oh, sorry, I--" I sputtered, trying to apologize when I realized who was leading their pack.
Nikki's eyes met mine for the space of a few seconds, until she quickly pushed past me and was soon back to chattering gossip with the divas.
A part of me still wanted to love her, but I had made that mistake before. I thought I had changed her from she was, but I hadn't. Her loyalty appeared to be with whoever gave her what she wanted--and right now, those people were Stephanie and Hunter.
No, I couldn't love her. Not right now, at least.
Especially since I had more important things on my mind. Beating Brock Lesnar and gaining the right to represent this school? It would certainly be a hard task, but I could do it. That's what's important.
Brock's time as champ is up. My time is now.
