"Carter? Carter, p-please..."
I stir awake with my body covered in goosebumps. Everything feels cold as if I have been in a freezer for too long. Warm, familiar arms are wrapped around my body, holding me close to his chest. Stiles is cradling me in his arms with occasional tear drops landing on the hand he is tightly grasping.
"H-Hey..." Stiles moves his right arm slightly to angle my head a little better. "You're going t-to be, o-okay." His eyes are red and puffy from crying for so long.
My heart was breaking from knowing what was coming and see Stiles so hurt. Deep down, I knew he knows what's going to happen. My body felt icy and numb. Most of my shirt was coated with my own blood along with Stiles' clothes. The pain was gone, but the heartbreak I was going through was the worst.
I weakly grab onto Stiles' hand with as much strength as I can muster. "S-Stiles-"
"Shh! Save your energy." Stiles bites down on his lip hard.
I barely am able to shake my head against his arm. "I love you." I whisper as I silently begin to cry.
"No," Stiles lifts my hand up to press the back to his lips. "Don't say that. Don't say it like your saying g-goodbye." His lips move against the back of my hand and, every few seconds, I can feel his chin quiver. "You're not leaving me. The ambulance will be here soon."
The corners of my lips attempt to lift in a thinly pressed smile. "They won't be able to help." I whisper through my tears.
Scott and Mrs. McCall rush into the room followed by Derek and Mr. Stilinski. All of them have concerned looks on their faces. Mrs. McCall sprints to the two of us and falls down to her knees.
"Is there anything you can do?" Stiles asks in a desperate tone.
Mrs. McCall opens her mouth only to shut it a few seconds later. Hesitantly, she reaches for the hem of my shirt to lift it up to see the bullet wound. Her eyes widen before she tries to act like it's not that big of a deal. I watch her carefully while struggling to catch my breath.
"Mom?" Scott calls her name after she doesn't say anything for a few minutes.
She peers over her shoulder at everyone else. Her eyes slowly drift back to me and then Stiles. "I'm so sorry..."
Stiles' whole body tenses against mine. "N-No..." He cradles me closer to his chest, head bowing down to press his lips to my cheek. "No, no, no..." His entire body wracks with sobs.
With my other hand, I reach up to tangle my fingers into his hair to help bring him closer to me. I never knew this time would come. I've never wanted to say goodbye to Stiles like this- or to anyone. Stiles peppers kisses all over my face.
Behind Mrs. McCall, Scott sinks down to the floor with tears in his eyes. "Allison and your uncle are own their way."
"What- What happened to Matt?" I start to choke on something in my throat.
Stiles and Mrs. McCall help me lean over with my coughing fit. My hand moves from Stiles' hair to my mouth as red blood coats my palm and fingers. Mrs. McCall grabs a deputies jacket from nearby and wipes the blood off of my hand.
"Save your energy." Stiles repeats.
"Everyone's okay." Scott moves across the floor to sit beside us. His hand finds its way to my shoulder. "We're going to take care of you."
"No," I tell all of them. My hand wanders over over my stomach until Stiles intertwines our fingers together, understanding what I was trying to do.
"S-Stop trying to say goodbye." Stiles pulls me closer to his chest.
I give his hand a small squeeze. "Stiles-"
"No!" Stiles raises his voice, causing everyone but me to flinch. "You're not leaving me! You're- You're going to be okay! The ambulance is on their wa-" His voice breaks and he buries his face into the crevice of my neck and shoulder. "I love you so much. Please p-please don't leave me..."
Sobs consume my body. It doesn't matter that the ambulance and paramedics are on their way. By the time they get here, I already know what will happen. In the back of my mind, I always knew I'd end up getting hurt for always putting my life at risk for my friends.
I'd rather get shot a million more times instead of seeing Stiles like this.
"I-I love you-" Stiles' voice cracks again.
My chin quivers as I say, "I love you, too, Stiles." My back arches and I start to gasp for a breath.
Stiles starts to repeatedly shout for me not to leave him and that he loves me. Everything feels like a thick fog is sliding over me. Nothing is hurting me except for a broken heart. The gasping for a breath ceases as I sink back into Stiles' chest, eyes fluttering shut. Stiles' voices sounds a million miles away.
His voice fades away and nothing makes me happier than knowing I was last in his arms.
XXXX
I hate writing about Stiles being sad. I really do hate it. I mean, I did want you guys to know how Carter died so this was pretty important to do.
Carter and Stiles are so cute together.
The idea of writing a story about how they first met and everything is still in my mind. It's debatable at the moment.
Question: What did you think?
So, yeah!
