"Jordan, everyone's waiting for you downstairs. What's taking so long?" my mom questions as she peeks into my room. I twirl around at my spot in front of the mirror, examining myself with proper caution before glancing back at her.
"Too much?" I ask with a worried laugh, unsure of what she might think of my appearance.
I was wearing a dark blue dress with dazzling beads on my shoulders, stopping right above my waist. The rest of the gown flew around me like a deep blue sea. My dark brown hair was pinned up, revealing my bony collarbones and slightly tanned skin. Unlike my family, whose faces were pale and who all had bright blonde locks, I was the odd ball. The only thing really similar being our same bright blue eyes, to which mine were currently shining thanks to the complimentary of my dress.
My mom gives me a quick once over and I watch as a wide grin spreads across her face.
"Not in the slightest my dear, you look absolutely stunning," she beams, coming over to kiss my cheek as I stare once again into the mirror.
"Are you sure? I can't afford any mistakes mom, this has to be perfect. After all, it is my 18th birthday."
18.
I've waited my whole life for this night. This one, very special night. I only want for it to be everything I've ever dreamed of.
"I'm certain. Now come on, let's not keep your guests waiting," she smiles as she tugs on my arm.
I sigh and nod my head before following her out of the room. A sudden wave of nervousness washing over me.
"Jordan! Oh you look marvelous! Everyone was wondering what was taking so long," my best friend Charlotte beams as I step off the staircase. She pulls me into a tight hug while I laugh and give her a slight squeeze in return.
"So glad you could make it Char, by the way you wouldn't have happened to see Alex anywhere, would you?" I ask, looking around the room in sight of my boyfriend. Alex and I have been together since the 6th grade, being inseparable ever since the moment we met. I only hope it will always stay that way.
"Actually I did. He's by the bar along with the rest of the soccer team. But hey! You're going to ditch me so soon, you just got here!" she pouts.
I give her a small frown, "It won't take long, promise."
Before she can argue any further I yell a quick "I love you" over my shoulder before taking off. I can hear her sigh behind me before mumbling "I love you too", which causes me to smile in satisfaction.
I spot Alex by the bar laughing at something one of his teammates must have said. His shaggy brown hair shining in the bright lights of the room, making him look even more gorgeously handsome than he already was.
"Alex!" I squeal just before he turns around. I jump into his arms and squeeze tightly onto his neck, giving him a huge hug.
"Oh uhm, hey Jordan," he laughs nervously just as I pull away, a wide grin still visible across my face. I look up at him, only to notice that he didn't look nearly as enthusiastic.
"Is something wrong?" I ask, unsure of what I could have done. "Is it the dress? Do you not like it?" I quickly look down at myself, examining every part of my body in assurance that it wasn't my appearance that had him off guard.
"No it looks fine, I'm just tired," he gives me a weary smile. "Remember I had that game this morning?"
I mentally sigh in relief. "Oh yeah, I totally forgot," I admit, "How'd it go?"
