The Jobs

"You have a scratch on your forehead! Are you alright?" Thomas asked very concerned. For a few seconds, I couldn't make myself look away from his beautiful brown eyes. I finally snap out of it and realize he is concerned about me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I ran into the side of the box before the lights came on, but it doesn't hurt that much." I reply quickly. It's my first day here and the last thing I want is for the other boys to think that I'm a wimp just because of a small scratch. I look over at Newt who is already climbing out of the box. He turns around as he is climbing and asks, "Well, are you two coming or not? We need to show the greenie around!". I look over at Thomas and he nods his head towards the side of the box. He starts to climb out, but I'm still weak from my ride in the box. It had been a while since I actually walked. Thomas is out of the box before I could even blink. I wondered how he could climb so fast, but I guess he has had alot of practice. Thomas turned around and looked and me. "Need some help?" he offered as he held out his hand. At first, I didn't want it, but I realized that it was okay to need help.
"Yeah, I'm still having trouble keeping my balance while standing. Thanks." I reply happily. Thomas helps me out and we walk over to where Newt was casually standing as he ran his fingers through his messy blonde hair.
"So, what do you guys call this place?" I ask full of excitement. I really want to know all about it and how everything was built. Newt turned around and walked closer to me and Thomas.
"We call it the Glade. In the Glade, everyone has a job. There are MedJacks, Builderd, Slicers, Gardeners, Cooks, and Runners. The MedJacks are kind of like doctors. They help if someone gets hurt or sick. The Slicers, which I very highly doubt you would be, kills the animals and cuts all of the meat out when we need it.  The Gardeners obviously do all of the gardening around here and the Cooks, well, they cook our food.The Builders build everything we need in the Glade. They built every single building in the Glade so they work pretty hard. Then lastly, there are the Runners. Every day, the Runners go through those doors and run. Behind those doors is the maze, and you must never enter in it unless you are told to or are a Runner." answered Newt. But the last part about the maze and the Runners seemed very important, and I was eager to know more about it.
