'Headed for the open door/ tell me whatcha waiting for.'

-We Come Running, Youngblood Hawke

'Cassidy.'

I started as I awoke from my light doze. Hu Li and Nathan were sitting up in their cells, eyes wide. Hu Li mouthed '12 AM' to me and everything came back to me.

Now was the time.

Hamburger-I mean, escape time.

A few seconds later, Elliot stepped in quickly and quietly, carrying three bags with him. My eyes widened as I recognized one of the bags.

My Gucci handbag.

'Elliot!' I whispered joyfully as he knelt down to unlock my cell. He winked as he dropped my bag in front of my cell and I swung open the door to grab it and hug it to my chest.

'My baby.' I stroked it gently, admiring the powder blue color and sheen. 'My sweet, sweet child.'

My hands hastened to find the zipper of the bag and pulled, opening it up. Peeking inside, I lifted out what looked like...

'Oh. My. Gosh.' In my hands was the outfit I wore to the airport that fateful day. The one I got dragged to court in. The one that was taken away from me and replaced by an orange jumpsuit by the warden.

I smoothed my hands over the trench coat, with the buttons glinting and nearly cried with happiness.

'Cassidy, hurry up!' Hu Li had already started getting dressed, and Nathan too.

I unzipped my jumpsuit and threw on my white shirt, black pants, trench coat and heels (Elliot was a legend). I couldn't care less about who I was flashing, my mind all on the thought of getting out.

I picked up my bag and rifled through it again, finally finding what I was looking for. Cold metal met my fingertips and I pulled out the gun. It felt heavy in my hand, and I marveled at how this thing was a literal killing machine, so small yet so powerful and destructive.

'Everybody ready?' Hu Li looked super chill in her fit sweater and ripped jeans, and Nathan looked cute in his black button up with the sleeves rolled to his elbows. I stopped for a second to admire the view, before slinging my bag over my shoulder.

'Let's go.'

We slowly tip-toed outside (a feat in heels, let me tell you). The corridor was dark and it was dead silent. It was actually really creepy, like one of those dark video games where anything could pop out at any time and kill you. We tried to make as little noise as possible, though I couldn't help relishing the (slightly muffled) click-clack of my heels on the cement.

When we finally reached the back door, I pushed it open gently, cringing as it made a creak. We all slipped out quietly, and Elliot, last in line, was almost out the door when I heard a noise. Looking up, I saw a gate, barbed wire lining the top edges, and a man grinning at us.

As he pointed a shotgun at my face.

'Thought you could escape this easily?' The man chuckled lowly and his eyes wandered over to Elliot. 'I knew there was something fishy about you, lil' Bible thumper boy.'

Suddenly Elliot's arms were grabbed, each by a burly guard. Hu Li's eyes widened but she stayed composed.

I quickly came to my senses and got a good grip on my gun. Lifting my arm slowly, I carefully aimed at the man.

'Let us go.'

'Little girl, do you even know how to use a gun?'

'Would you like to find out?'

'Sure.' He smirked and cocked his head to the side as he adjusted his fingers on the trigger.

And then everything went red.

Bang.

Bang.

Bang.

I heard an everlasting scream that seemed to go on forever. I thought that maybe it was me, but I checked and my mouth was firmly closed.

I looked at my assailant, who was on the ground clutching the part where the sun don't shine and wailing in this high pitched manner.

'Dude, you sound like you never hit puberty.' I strolled over and gently pushed him to the ground with my heel. 'And considering you weren't smart enough to step aside, I guess it's true.'

I swiveled around and pointed the gun at the guys holding Elliot. 'Let him go.'

But in a split second, Elliot was pushed in front of them, still held captive but blocking the guards' bodies with his own. I couldn't shoot them without shooting Elliot.

'Cassidy, just go.' Elliot's strangled voice reached my ears. 'You can come back for me later.'

I looked at Nathan and Hu Li, whose eyes seemed particularly shiny at that moment. They both subtly nodded.

'Alright.' I lowered my gun and swallowed. 'We promise we'll come back.'

Elliot nodded solemnly and he was dragged back inside, still in front of the guards the whole time.

'Let's go, guys.' I sighed, turning around to walk out the gate. Hu Li and Nathan kept in step. And as Elliot said, there waiting for us was a white van.

Bessie.

'Get in before any more guards come.'  Hu Li hopped into the driver's seat and I called shotgun before Nathan.

'People, we're getting into Bessie.'

'We're getting into a cow.' I deadpanned.

'A dead cow.'

We all had a sad little chuckle together, remembering Elliot.

'C'mon guys, it's not like he died or something.' I declared. 'We're going to come back for him.'

Hu Li nodded, hands shaking as she started the car and started reversing. I looked to the front and saw guards running towards us.

'Hu Li, step on it!'

She smirked, revved up the engine (I did not know you could rev up an engine on a cow) and suddenly, the guards were disappearing rapidly behind us as we drove away.

After a while, we reached a highway and I saw no more trace of J.U.V.I.E.

'We're free.'

'Yeah.' Hu Li grinned. 'We are.'

And, I thought to myself, we have work to do.
