"Done my time and served my sentence/ Dress me up and watch me die."-Emperor's New Clothes, Panic! At The Disco
The sky was a brilliant blue just a few hours ago. It started to fade into a lovely dusty pink as the day drew to a close, and with the breeze blowing gently through the Bessie's windows, I felt at peace. That is, until Nathan's head fell unto my shoulder.
I sputtered and flailed. 'WH-'
'Shhhhhhh!' Hu Li hissed. 'He's sleeping. Don't wake him up.'
'Since when have you cared about Nathan's sleep quality?' I glared fiercely at her, my hands itching to shove the stupidly cute head off me.
'I'm not in the mood for another round of 'Let's see if we can get to our destination faster by asking Hu Li whether we're there yet'. Sue me for wanting some peace!'
'Ugh.' I rolled my eyes and slowly settled back into my seat, adjusting Nathan's head gently so that it would be in a more comfortable position and so I wouldn't have a neck cramp or something. I looked down at his peaceful face.
His lashes curled on his cheeks, casting shadows on his face and his mouth was slightly open. I placed my fingers under his jaw to close it. I didn't want drool on my trench coat.
His hair was mussed up, and his breathing even. Long gone was the sullen, broody boy I had met in my jail cell. Here was a vulnerable, angelic looking Nathaniel.
Except that jawline could give me a dang paper cut, but other than that, yeah, pretty dang innocent.
I hesitantly moved my hand to push back hair from his forehead. He shifted slightly and I froze, already feeling the piercing gaze of Hu Li. But he didn't wake up, and so I continued to push back his hair. My face was a literal inch from his, and I could see the tiny freckles dotting the bridge of his nose.
I tapped his eyelashes. 'Someday, I'm going to cut those off and glue them to my own eyelids.' I whispered evilly.
'Cassidy, calm down. Your eyelashes are long too.'
'Yeah, true.'
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw his hand move closer to my leg. I slipped my hand into his slowly, and his fingers tightened around my own. I couldn't help smiling.
After a bit, I started to feel sleepy myself. I leaned my head on Nathan's, and closed my eyes.

'Guys, we're here.'
Hu Li's deep voice woke me from my nap. I started, which jolted Nathan awake as well.
'Where are we.'
'What year is it.'
'Who am I.'
'Guys, snap out of it.' I blinked the fatigue from my eyes, and Nathan stretched and yawned. 'We're in your town, Cassidy.'
I got out of the car. I looked around.
Yes, this was my town. With the peppermint trees and the opulent houses, the gleaming brand name cars and the polished gardens. Where even the air smelled expensive.
I was home.
'Yessssssss.' I cooed in delight as I took a deep breath. 'The sweet aroma of money.'
'Now is NOT the time to fawn over the green papers.' Hu Li nudged me. 'Where's your house?'
I got back in the car. 'I'll give you directions while you drive.'
