Chapter Three
Louis stared at her in shock. "You're.. You're-"
"Gay? Yes. Or bi I guess. Don't really like to label it." She said, seemingly uninterested with the conversation, sipping at her coffee.
Louis felt his phone vibrate but for once, he didn't jump to answer it. "So... You have someone named Sophie."
"Had." El said, glaring slightly at him. "Had someone named Sophie."
"Okay, okay. Had someone. What happened?"
"You happened."
"What? Okay, I admit, I'm guilty for everything else you just said, but I'm not responsible for your failed-"
"This job happened. More specifically." She snapped, kicking him lightly under the table.
"Care to elaborate?"
"It's just, we just." She sighed, clearly frustrated that she couldn't find the right words. "Why am I even telling you this? You even admitted that you don't care."
"Didn't care. I didn't, but I want to start. I want to start being friends." Lou said honestly, squeezing her hand lightly.
She smiled sadly at him before she started. "We were poor uni students. Her parents had abandoned her for being gay and so we had to find a way to support both of us. My mum tried to help as much as she can but, even she was struggling and-" she cut off, getting chocked up.
"Hey," he said softly. 'Its okay."
Eleanor took a deep breath before continuing, "We both started to double up on shifts but it was hard to balance that and school. She offered to drop out, but I knew how much her writing meant to her, so I wouldn't let her. But we still needed the money, so.. So I decided to drop out. I got two jobs and would double up on shifts on both and I was so exhausted but, she... She was worth it. Seeing her at the end of every day, no matter how stressful or long it was, made up for everything. Seeing her gush about some silly poem or book made me keep going. She was worth it. Everything I did was for her."
Everything she was saying reminded Louis of Harry. He was worth it. He deserved everything, he deserved so much more then Louis. That's why he was working so hard to become perfect. Because that's what Harry deserves.
"Anyways, it went on like that for months, before Alana told me about the job. And at that time, I figured I had nothing to lose. So I contacted Modest, thinking nothing would happen and suddenly I'm signing a contract, getting a complete makeover and being pulled away from my Sophie for six months. I would send her money of course. But after seeing her only through Skype for so long, It was absolute hell."
"Then why did you sign for a year?"
"Because! You should have seen her when I came back home. She was fucking glowing. She talked about how she would finally be able to buy a book without feeling guilty, how we would finally be able to eat out without having to double shifts. She was so happy. I hadn't seen her like that for months, Louis. It broke my heart, that I hadn't been able to... Provide her with what she deserved, or even needed." She said, her eyes filling up with tears. "After that day, I promised myself I would never make her go through that again."
"And it was great for a while. I was able to stay with her during the week, come to London during the weekends and I was even able to go back to school. But then, you guys started touring America, and I had to be gone weeks at a time. And then pretty soon I was spending months in London with you, following you like a puppy-"
"That's not my fau-"
"I know it's not your fault" She snapped. "But it happened and I lost her! She was... Is my everything."
"Then fight for her, win her back-!"
"I can't," she sobbed, "can't you see that? I can't! I'm under contract-"
"For a few more months." Louis cut in fiercely.
They sat in a tense silence before Eleanor opened her mouth to say something before her phone rang. She pulled it out of her bag and looked at the caller ID.
"It's Paul. He's probably wondering where we are." She stated quietly.
They sat in silence the whole ride home before they pulled up in front of Lou's apartment complex. "If.. If she loves you half as much as you obviously love her, she'll wait for you."
She offered him a small and obviously heartbroken smile.
"She'd also be stupid not to, El."
"Thank you. Thank you so much Louis." She said to him, voice cracking slightly.
He leaned in and softy kissed her cheek before exiting the car, the surprised look on both Paul's and the girl from management not going unnoticed.
He hurried inside, eager to see Harry. Although this "date" was beneficial, it was still exhausting. It's always nice to come home and know that he was always waiting for him with a cuppa.
"Harry?"
"Hi, love." His warm, soothing voice said. "You okay? I was worried, you wouldn't answer your ph-" he was cut off by Louis kissing him softly.
"Lou? What's wrong?"
"Nothing.. We just have a lot to talk about. But first, I'd like to completely ravish you, is that o- mmph!"
