The bell finally rang, and students jolted out the door, except Gordie, who waited patiently for Chris. Soon, Chris was beside Gordie, and they were walking together on the way to Gordie's house.

Soon, they reached Gordie's house, and Gordie walked up to the door and knocked. His dad came to the door.

"I'm going out for a while, Dad. I'll be back by dinner," Gordie said.

"You probably need to stay out a little later than that. I'm helping Denny train and your mother is far too busy to watch you," his father answered.

"Oh, okay," Gordie said. His dad shut the door. "Wait, do I at least get some money?" Gordie called, yet received no answer. He sighed an returned to Chris.

"Sorry, man. That's gotta be rough," Chris said, placing his hand on Gordie's shoulder.

"You get used to it," Gordie said plainly.

"Wait, this happens often?" Chris asked.

"Every day since I was five," Gordie said.

"This has been happening for years now?" Chris asked, shocked. Gordie shrugged. "Oh, hell no. Six years is too damn much," Chris said angrily, marching towards the door.

"Don't," Gordie said, grabbing Chris' shoulder and pulling him away from the house. "He won't care anyway," Gordie sighed. Chris gave him a very sad look.

"Hey, come on, man. I have an idea," Chris said, suddenly grinning. He took off running and Gordie caught up soon. Gordie was slightly faster than Chris. They soon stopped at a tree near a short cliff, on which you could see nearly the entire town.

"Wow, this is cool," Gordie said.

"That's not what I wanted to show you," Chris said. He pointed at the tree. Gordie looked confused. "Let's make a treehouse," Chris explained.

"Heck yeah!" Gordie said. Chris looked at him for a long time. "What?" Gordie asked.

"Try 'hell yeah.'" Chris said.

"Hell yeah!" Gordie said awkwardly.

"We'll work on that," Chris said, trying not to laugh.

"Hey, I'm trying, okay?" Gordie said. Chris smirked.

"Well, you're not trying hard enough."
