"You know I've been thinking..." He pauses for a brief second. "And I think that...in some way...fate is trying to bring our lives together." The only thing I can manage to get out is "Well what do you mean?" He stops to think, exhaling. "Well...first Rick and I find ya at the store, you use a crossbow, I use a crossbow, then we share a tent and now we're ridin' together." He looks at me, I'm blushing. I mean he pretty much described what I've been thinking for the past few days.
"I know you agree." He says.
I guess he saw my blush. "Yes actually, and I've been thinking that ever since Rick told me to share a tent with you."
I close my eyes before he asks anymore questions, pretending to sleep. After I do drift off, I awake to the car suddenly stoping. Daryl hops out, I see everyone from the other cars getting out. I grab my crossbow, getting out also. We all gather together, and Rick steps up. He tells us that Jim no longer wants to come, he just wants to die in peace. Rick and Daryl help him over by a tree. "Thank you." Jim whispers. Everyone says their goodbyes. Carol seems deeply saddened. Jackie has a tears in her eyes. Daryl nods as we all walk back to the cars.
As we depart, I stare out the window, watching a man that I barely knew get smaller and smaller. A man that is about to die. A few hours later we stop in the city, at our destination. Rick alerts us where we need to go. "It's that building over there." He points to a tall building, a few yards away.
The streets are littered with corpses. The stench of rotting flesh swarms the air. I want to cover my nose , but I don't want to show it bothers me. Daryl just keeps walking acting like it doesn't bother him. I wonder if it really does. A few campers like Glenn and Andrea moan in disgust. Carl gags at some of the ripped apart corpses. "That's disgusting." He says. I stroll up besides him. "Hey, you think that's bad. My dad made me skin animals younger then you." I let out a small laugh.
"He really did that to you?"
"Yeah all the time. Mostly deer, so my mother could cook the meat. That's why I use a crossbow you know."
"I've always wanted to learn how to shoot. Mom or dad never let me."
"Well as seeing our circumstances, maybe I could show you."
"Really?!"
"Yeah."I smile.
Carl runs up to his mother, telling her something. I'm guessing it's in relation to what I had said. Lori turns around smiling, her hand on his back. "Yeah, I guess she could." Carl turns around, an expression of genuine happiness on his face. "She said yes!" He says excitedly. "Alright, next time we're in the woods I promise I'll show you." I say. Then he runs up to Rick bragging about the good news.
"I see you made someone happy." Daryl comes up on the side of me. "He seems like a good kid." I say. Then the entrance of the building comes into view. Rick yells toward the door that we mean no harm, that we just need shelter. Nothing happens. A lone walker comes into sight, Daryl shoots an arrow into its skull. "More are gonna come we need to hurry up." Shane says. Rick tries banging on the door. "Come on man, let's just leave." Daryl says. We all slowly start to walk away. "Hey! The camera moved!" Rick yells. The small surveillance camera above the door, sits in place, not a slight move.
"I think your seein' things. Let's go." Shane says. Rick argues back insisting that he saw it move. A few straggler walkers come into sight. Daryl shoots them down. As we're all ready to leave, the door slowly starts to open, revealing a light. We stand there waiting for what may come.
