Chapter 4: Why Me???
Shayla POV
I had mixed feelings for that guy. I hate him, and as much as I hate to admit it, I... like him. He can be really nice, but I hate how he's the most annoying and infuriating guy that has ever roamed the Earth.
Honestly, I have no idea why I kissed him. Instincts tell me it's because he's my mate, but the same instincts also told me to awkwardly get out of my room afterwards to find Ashlyn and my brother and tell them about it.
Once I got into Ashlyn's room, I didn't even need to explain anything. They were both sitting on the bed and I took my usual seat on the chair.
"Spill," Ashlyn said. I grinned.
"And start from when you shifted! I'm a dark brown wolf, you?" Cole asked me.
"I have white fur with a little bit of grey. Anyways..." I slowly recapped them on what had happened, and they just sat there for 73 seconds after I finisheds (yes, I counted) just looking at me, not believing I really rejected the young Alpha.
Ashlyn was the first one to break the silence, "Shayla, as your best friend, it is my duty to tell you the truth. Therefore, I think you might be over-reacting a little bit," I opened my mouth to butt in, but she raised her hand, silencing me. "As I said, you may be over-reacting. You only know him as, and I quote 'egotistical player' but you don't know anything else about him."
"Agreed. Chase is really nice!" my brother compliments. I roll my eyes and sigh. "Just go find mom and dad, they'll know what to do," my brother encourages. I smile in return and get up. I should leave the newly found mates alone anyways. I bid farewell and head to my parents room.
I don't really like talking to my parents about this kind of stuff. They won't understand why I rejected him in the first place!
I found them in their room, where I was enveloped in their hug.
"Happy birthday Shayla!" they said in unison.
"Thanks! But you know you already said that this morning right?" we laugh.
"Oh! Your birthday present! my mom exclaims, "Here, open it," she hands me a small box wrapped in teal blue paper. I carefully rip off the tape and unfold the wrapping paper. A small voucher lay above the box.
"A $100 book voucher!? Thank you so much!" I squeal in delight.
"You're welcome honey," my dad chuckles, "now open the box!"
Slowly, I open the white jewelry box and find a black and silver necklace that reaches just below my neck with an intricate golden wolf pendant.
I was speechless.
"It's beautiful," I say, tracing the patterns on the wolf.
"Glad you like it, it matches your eyes," my mother smiles, "Did you want to tell us something?" my mom asks.
I sigh, "I found my mate, but he's the guy who's been annoying the lights out of me ever since I was born. And I rejected him, and then he kissed me, and then-"
"So you're saying Chase Anderson is your mate?" dad asks.
"Yeah, so as I was saying, I shifted right? Then I ran out, then he tackled me, and then he created the stupid mate bond, then he kissed me, then I found out I was a magic user that could read people's minds, then Alpha Jacobs says Chase will be Alpha tomorrow and I'll be his Luna, then he's going to be moving all my stuff into Chase's room!" I groan.
"Young love," my dad sighs.
"So here's the next question," starts my mom, "did you kiss him?"
"No! Well, yes? Maybe? I don't know! I hate him so much and I don't want to be looked as another fling of his." I cover my hand with my face, frustrated.
"Language, missy," frowns my mother jokingly.
"Maybe you could always give it a shot, the really wants to find his mate, and he may be willing to change for you. I think I heard somewhere that guys these days like a good chase?" my dad laughs.
"I think your dad is right. Just give it some time, he might change," my mom grins.
"Fine, I'm only going to try because you two said so, okay?" I lie.
"I knew you'd come to your senses!" my dad exclaims and pulls us in for a family hug, yet again.

"Careful with the books please!" I yell as some of the pack members move my things into Chase's room.
"Hey, guys! Is it possible to move my bed as well?" I ask, hopefully.
"No, but we can take the mattress if you'd like," replies one of them.
"Can't! Alpha's orders says we cannot take the mattress but is allowed to store it in your parents room, Shayla," says the other.
Damn it! Now I can't sleep on the floor!
"Fine whatever, go do that," I grumble.

"Shayla? Are you in there? Can you open the door?" Chase yells. I have just finished taking a shower, and took precautions to locking the bathroom door and the main door to his room. Just in case he decides to knock down his door, there'd still be another door he'd have to barge in through.
"Wait! I just took a shower! Can I just sleep in the living room or something!" I yell back.
"No!"
"Fine, be that way," I mutter. I quickly finished blow drying my straight brown hair that reaches above my waists, and head over towards the door, unlocking it. Looking away from Chase as he steps into the room.
"Looks like you'll be sleeping with me then huh, Shayla?" Chase smirks.
"No, I'll take the sofa, and you'll take the bed." I head back over to the bathroom and quickly brush my teeth. Let me tell you, his room is ten times the size of mine. Literally. My room wasn't that big, since I liked the coziness of it.
"How did you have so little stuff in your room?" he asks me.
"Because I don't use make-up or buy tons of clothes? All everyone actually needs is a bookshelf, desk, and a big wardrobe," I shrug as I walk out, preparing to go to bed.
"You don't even wear a single particle of make-up," he scoffs flatly in disbelief.
"My mom doesn't use makeup or nail polish either so I guess I just never felt the need to. Now that you bring it up, I've also never written on my hand..."
"Are you sure you're a 21st century girl?"
"Asshole," I mutter.
"If I really was an asshole, why would I be telling you that some weird things has happened to the sofa?" he asks, smirking again.
"Wow, so you're telling your mate," I air quote 'mate', "who already has to suffer sleeping in your room, you've banged some girls on your sofa."
"Yes, that is why you'll be sleeping on the bed, with me," he answers.
"No! I'll be sleeping on the floor then!" I say. He turns off the lights to his room and I make my way to a pillow I threw onto the floor.
Suddenly, my body is being tugged backwards by a pair of large hands that wrapped themselves around my waist. I start screaming and kicking, trying to break free. No, I'm not overreacting. I mean, what would you do if someone grabs you in the dark?
I was pushed on top of the bed, where his arms trapped me, not letting me break free.
"Get used to this mate," Chase huskily says behind my ear. I mentally groan.
Why me???
