Chapter 14: Betrayal

The food gave me strength. I managed to catch quick glimpses in the minds of those rouges even from inside this star-iron filled shed. There wasn't much to find though, much to my dismay.

Chase.

Arden.

Chase.

Gahhh, why do I keep thinking about them so much? Arden has been really nice to me, giving me food and such, making sure my energy isn't drained; leaving the door open so I can contact my pack; telling me about the plans these rouges are plotting. But Chase... he's my mate... yet he still went slobbering all over Rebecca. Like, who the hell does she think she is? Kissing the Alpha of her own pack that already has a mate!

I growl in anger as the images slip into the front of my mind, regardless of the efforts I've taken to push them back.

"Hey Shayla," Arden's voice rang through the tiny shed. Despite myself, I smiled.

"Hey," I replied. I crawled to the front of my cage.

"Guess what?" he asks me, sitting in front of me, grinning.

"What?" I tilted my head; his smile was just so contagious.

"I managed to get you chocolate!" He takes his hands from behind his back, and sure enough, there's chocolate. My favorite kind!

I gasp. "No way! And it's Lindt milk chocolate! You remembered?" I silently squeal, not wanting Arden to get caught.

"Of course!"

The long chains that bind me clinked as I reached my hand out to accept the gift. I greedily open the delicate red packing and gobble up the delicious chocolate. Gosh I missed this.

"Arden?"

"Yeah?"

"You're not still mad about the Chase thing are you?" I silently ask, biting my lip.

He thought about the question before he answered, "Honestly? A bit. Why were you running in the forest anyways?" he asks me.

Now it's my turn to think. Should I tell him? Perhaps I should.

"Chase was kissing someone else," I muttered.

"Ahh... So it worked didn't it," he mused. I immediately panicked. What did he do to Chase?

"What did you do to him," I growl. I felt the rage boiling inside of me. Screw those chocolates!

"I swear! It wasn't me! Gaston sent this girl to do something to him, I only just found out!"

"That pain! You know the pain I had when he kissed Rebecca? It was pure agony Arden! Agony! " Oh, how I wished I was out of this stupid cage so I could kick him!

"I didn't know about it Shayla! Gosh, would you just listen to me! At least look into my mind or something! I'm telling the frickin truth!" he almost yells. It takes me aback, making me lose control of my powers and lead me into looking into his mind - totally by pure accident.

Indeed, he was telling the truth. So I'll let him go this time.

'My bones ache!' Twila wails. I growl back at my wolf.
