Chapter 12: What have I Done?

Shayla's POV

I blindly ran, ignoring the hundreds of voices in my head. Everyone was mind-linking me. Everyone except for Chase.

How did I get into this mess? I never should've believed he could really change. I blocked all connections with mind-linking and continued running.

I ran for what seemed like days, and finally came to a stop as night started to fall. I climbed up swift 20 meters up a tree and stayed there, darkness as my blanket.

'Arden?' I gasped, his strong figure ran towards me.

"Get out of here! You have to go! Go back!" He yelled at me, shaking my shoulders. My vision started to blur and the world started to fall.

"What? Why?" I ask, starting to panic.

"The prophecy. The prophecy..." That was the last thing he said before he faded away.

I instantly woke up and saw a scruffy looking guy standing at the foot of the tree, probably in his mid-twenties. Behind him stood Arden.

"Arden?" I croaked; my throat sore and dry. He looked worn up, new scars covered his arms and legs, and blood trickled from his forehead.

'Get away from here Shayla! Go!' I heard him say in his mind. I didn't take a second thought as I shoved my boots into my bag and leaped from tree to tree, not caring as my clothes ripped as I shifted. I heard the cries of the rouges closing in behind me, plenty of star-iron hanging from their waist, sharp daggers and weapons in their hands.

I continued running, not caring that the direction I was running in was the way back home. No one would care if I mind linked them about my situation. They only take orders from the Alpha.

The thought shook me.

Chase.

Chase Anderson.

I had been running towards the front door to see what the commotion was. The sight before me... I shouldn't even be shocked! I was used to it before! Why did it hurt so much now?

Chase. My mate. Lip locking with another one of our packs bitches.

His hand was traveling down her super tiny shorts. Rebecca. My mind instantly clicked.

He was giving her sloppy kisses, and her hand was running up his hair. All I could do was stand there with my knees shaking. The world seemed to go into slow motion as I walked towards them, trying to figure out what was real and what wasn't. Time sped up again and I found myself alone in the forest, head swaying, vision failing.

"SHAYLA! NO!" I faintly heard Arden in the distance. I felt star-iron graze against my wrists and I winced, feeling star-iron droplets dripping into my mouth, making me fall back into the protection of darkness.

Chase's POV:

I was frozen to the spot. I didn't know what had come over me. All I remembered from this afternoon was Rebecca handing me a drink when I was on my way to see Shayla... The drink. I knew something seemed off about it! Why was I so stupid!?

Now my mate was gone, I was a horrible Alpha, I had lost my trust between the most important person to me, and I was weak without her.

"River, as my beta, I need you to send Rebecca to our jails. She drugged me. Get someone to investigate the pack drinks and food to see if there's any mystic poison. Also, send someone to check her room. I'm going to be at the pack library to find a map of the packs," I told my River.

"On it. But mystic poison? Are you sure? That's really rare. You're talking about the one that can control anyone for five minutes right? The one made by witches?" he asks.

"Yes, that one. I would never betray Shayla like that. Especially to Rebecca." I cut off my mind-link. I tried contacting Shayla, but it wasn't working. It seemed as if I was searching in empty space. That could only mean she's... No. Don't think like that.

My wolf howled in dismay as the images flickered in my mind. Seeing her so fragile and vulnerable ripped me into so many pieces that I can't even recognize. She looked broken, almost... dead.

My wolf took control of my weakened body as it shifted and got up from the ground. Legs sore from laying down too long, I slowly made my way back home as night enveloped the world.

Shayla's POV

I slowly woke up and groaned to find shining star-iron chains on both my wrists and ankles. I slowly sat up from my cell, observing my surroundings. It was dark, leaving me in a tiny cell in a huge shed; sunlight seeped through some gaps in the old and cracked wood. I suddenly remembered my desperate thirst for water. My throat was dry and it hurt to even open my mouth. My tongue felt sandy as I recalled the silver substance being dripped in. How long was I out?

"I want my mate," my wolf silently whined. Thank goodness we were still intact.

"He still cheated on us for Rebecca," I growled back at her.

I tried mind-linking my pack, but it didn't work; it just felt as if I'm floating through hollow nothingness. My powers of mind-reading was weak due to the hundreds of star-iron that proudly hung along the walls of the old shed. I sighed and laid back down on the ground, my chains clinking as I did so.

Suddenly, the old wooden door a meter beside my cell slowly creaked open. I desperately waved my hands along the floor, searching for some form of protection only to find none. A big shadow appeared before the doorway along with bright shining light.

"Hello, my prize."
