GRAYSON'S POV
*RECOMEND LISTENING TO THE SONG LOST BOY BY RUTH B.*
Flashback
"Aspen no!" I heard someone yell.
I turned around to see Grayson and Ethan running towards me.
I couldn't let them save me, not again, not after everything I've been through.
I shook my head, tears falling down my face as I took a step backwards, falling off the edge, the only sounds I heard were from the two boys above screaming my name.
That was the end.
Everything happened in what seemed like slow motion, the way her body slowly fell off the side of the cliff as if it was her only way out of here.
My body froze in pure horror as I realized she actually attempted suicide, right in front of us.
Ethan stood still like a statue, unsure how to even start processing the event that just happened right in front of us.
It then happened all out of nowhere, my heart was going faster than my brain and the next thing I knew I was down in the water, searching for the girl that wanted to take her own life.
I searched for about five minutes when I saw her body floating, I instantly swam over to her, pulling her close to keep her above water as I continued to swim back to shore.
I couldn't lose her, not like this, not now, not after everything she's been through.
Not after everything I put her through.
As I was approaching the shore line, I could hear faint sirens in the distance, I was thankful Ethan snapped out of the shock as he realized I too, had jumped into the dark abyss of the ocean.
I jogged my way up the side of the cliff, holding onto the fragile and lifeless girls body, praying to god that maybe, just maybe she'd wake up.
But who was I kidding?
We both heard the sound she made when she connected with the ocean below her, it was a sound you could never forget.
It sounded as if someone jumped from a tall building and landed on the concrete below and all you heard was one loud crack, and then everything after that was just pure silence.
I'm not going to lie and say that wasn't the most disturbing sound I've ever heard, because it was and ill always remember it till the day I die.
Funny isn't it?
Everyone talks about death as if it's nothing.
But it's more than that, especially if you have to witness it.
I must have been in a deep thought, Ethan shook my shoulders gently, motioning over towards the ambulance and cop cars that arrived and rushed over to the lifeless girl in my arms.
This was all my fault.
If I hadn't kissed Mackenzie she wouldn't be here right now, if I hadn't ever bullied her in the first place she wouldn't of jumped off that cliff.
If I hadn't messed with her, she could be having a normal teenage life, going to school, having friends who don't backstab you.
But no, I ruined it all, I caused this and it's my fault.
The cop had just finished speaking to Ethan, before walking over to me, which I had to admit scared me shitless.
It's not everyday you get questioned on what you saw and what happened at the scene of a suicide attempt.
Ethan looked broken, he was the one who was truly there for her before she decided to end it all.
Where was I?
Why couldn't I be more like Ethan and actually observe my surroundings once in a while.
The cop cleared his throat, catching my attention as I mumbled a 'sorry' as if that'd make up for me not listening what so ever.
"Is the girl a friend of yours?" The cop questioned, making me blink and swallow dryly.
"She was more than that, she was basically my girlfriend." I choked back, tears falling down my cheeks as I answered the questions.
The cop nodded and wrote it down on the sketch pad before looking back up at me.
"What exactly happened here?" They questioned, making my whole body freeze, I rather not relive that whole moment ever again.
But I had to tell them what happened right?
I had to.
"She wanted to kill herself, a-and my brother and I figured out that this would be the place she'd go to.. When we arrived sh-she was standing on the edge.." I choked back a sob, biting my lower lip as if she was still standing there this very moment.
"We made a noise which caused her to look back, when she realized we were here to save her, sh-she.." I couldn't continue with the story as I began to emotionally breakdown.
The cop finished writing what they could before bringing me over to the cop car, setting me besides Ethan as he held me close as I continued to cry.
Never would I think that I'd have a breakdown, but I did.
The next thing I knew, I was in the hospital waiting room, Ethan was sipping what seemed to be hospital coffee, his eyes bloodshot from not only crying but not sleeping at all.
For the life of me, I couldn't remember what happened after I sat in the cop car, everything just vanished as if it never happened.
I glanced at Ethan who noticed I was awake, he gave a weak smile, but we both know it was fake.
I ran my fingers through my hair nervously as I waited for anyone to come tell us how she was doing.
Numerous thoughts were flowing through my head.
What if she didn't make it?
What if she did make it?
What if she's in a coma?
What if she can never walk again?
What if she can't remember anything?
My thoughts were cut off the second the doctor came out, I couldn't tell if the news was good or bad, I couldn't read the expression on his face.
All I know was that I wasn't prepared at all to hear any news.
I closed my eyes tightly as did Ethan, we heard the doctor let out a sigh as he directed us to a different area and to a different room.
The second we entered the room, I realized it was Aspen.
Tears fell down my face as a struggled sob left my mouth, as Ethan had the most distraught face I had ever seen.
That was the day we all wouldn't forget.
That was the day Aspen Lawley died.
