Chapter Ten

Gale's POV

I'm woken a few hours later by Haymitch; Madge sleeps beside me, tears still stained on her cheeks. I sit up disoriented wondering what Haymitch could want. He is holding a thick stack of papers.

"I've brought you these, might want to look over them before we arrive in the Capitol," he drops the papers on the bed.

I pick them up, flipping through them, "What are theses?" I ask seeing random names float past my eyes.

"Your competition. I got their names and District as we find out more about them leading up to the Games we're going to write down what we can about them," he says before exiting the room.

I flip back to the front of the stack. These are the other tributes, my competition. Beside the names are their pictures. Male tribute first then the female.

District One: Secundus Herenus and Volcatia Telesina

District Two: Marcus Trebonius and Julia Claudiana

District Three: Hostus Lucan and Canutia Livigena

District Four: Vibius Messala and Ateia Sollemnis

District Five: Vender Riverworth and Nilla Riverworth

District Six: Ash Plainbrook and Lavender Brightsand

District Seven: Proclus Albinius and Pedia Prisca

District Eight: Crocas Copperdrop and Saguine Littlebrand

District Nine: Morrel Bronzelock and Tansee Lowwood

District Ten: Cabel Underville and Pelle Everpetal

District Eleven: Leome Commonwillow and Sycamore Peacechair

District Thirteen: Zedo Earthcreek and Orna Heavenheart

I look at the clock and see it reads 5:30, outside the train dark landscape is passing by with only a hint of the morning dawn approaching. I slip out the door, but not before leaving a note for Madge on where to find me.

Madge walks up to me just as the train begins slowing down. The Capitol skyscrapers high up in the sky in the distance. The light from the sun shining down brightly like there is nothing wrong in the world. The train station approaches and all I can see is the mass amount of people waiting for us to arrive. The train slows to a stop and Haymitch and Effie approach.

"Ignore them, it's the best option," Haymitch says gruffly before leading the way toward the exit.

As we step off the train my hand finds Madge's and cameras and lights flash relentlessly. The flashing lights of the cameras leave spots across my vision making it harder to follow Haymitch and Effie. We keep up though and we make it a car, Effie leads the way in and Haymitch waits by the door. Madge and I quickly climb in before anymore pictures can be taken of us. Haymitch climbs in and quickly shuts the door.

"Welcome to the Capitol, District Twelve," the driver says before taking us away.

"Hello, come on in!" someone says with mock enthusiasm. I can tell they're trying to hard to be excited.

"Hi," I say roughly.

"I'll take it from here," they say to the Peacekeeper who escorted me here.

They nod before leaving the room leaving me with this unknown person.

"I'm Augustus, your stylist," he says. "I know you don't want to be here; I don't either. Snow threatened to kill my family if I didn't take the job. I really didn't have any other choice."
