Chapter Thirty-two

Madge's POV

We left almost immediately. As soon as we got to Twelve, people instantly surrounded Peeta and Katniss. It was hard to make out what was going on with all the voices talking to them at once. A packet of papers was shoved into Katniss's hand. The voices quieted down as some people drifted away as Peeta and Katniss's attention was drawn to the packet of papers. Others stuck around, but from a distance, almost as if they are waiting to see their reactions to the packet of papers.

Gale and I stay off to the side. People rush around as they wheel the other Tributes off the hovercraft. Most of them are unconscious as they are wheeled off. Others are awake, but seem confused and out of it.

I look around to find the familiar scenery of District Twelve. It's been awhile since I've last been here. I didn't know when the next time I was going to see this place, if I was ever going to see the place again. Now that I see it again, it's nothing like I expected. But, at the same time, I don't know what I expected the District to look like. I wasn't expecting it to be the same, but I don't know how different I was expecting. Maybe I was expecting more soldiers and Peacekeepers to be milling around. That's not wrong, there are more wandering around the District. Not the ones, I expected though. I was expecting Snow to have her people patrolling the District. There are none though. The soldiers and Peacekeepers milling about look foreign. There are some that look familiar because they usually patrol District Twelve, but the others I've never seen before in my life. Where did they all come from?

Our time in District Twelve was short though; as soon as Katniss and Peeta finished reading whatever the packet of papers said, we left the District. We were on a train heading to District Eight. We didn't have much time to have an explanation on what was all going on. We were just told me needed to get to District Eight immediately. So we were on our way there. On the train, we got some kind of brief explanation involving the packet. We were at war, World War IV, whatever happened in the first three I don't know. It doesn't really matter though. The packet said we were needed on the front lines. It wasn't just us being moved to the front lines. The other train cars are packed full of soldiers ready to heading out to Eight with us.

Once Gale found out about us heading the front lines, he demanded I stay in Twelve as far as you can get from the fighting in Panem. I understand his protective nature, but I can take care of myself. It was too late for Gale to make me stay in Twelve though because the train had already started taking off from the station. We had to come to some sort of compromise because knowing Gale like I do. I had promised him I wouldn't go into the actual fight; instead, I would stay back at our headquarters, wherever that is. Besides, I'm not much of a fighter anyway. I wouldn't be able to do anything worthwhile in the front lines. Even in the arena I wasn't much help with the fight. I just froze mostly in shock.

After arriving in Eight, we piled into another train with some foreign generals. We were leaving immediately for the next stop. I didn't understand much of what was being discussed, except that the way things were looking we weren't going to be stopped in Seven for long. I was to stay back at the train station which was our command center. It didn't take long before we were moved again from Seven to Six.

Six was a bit of a problem. We were there for the longest before we withdrew up to Five. In Six, they were waiting for us. Snow had people stationed there or the District refused to give up. I don't think anyone knows the real reason, but they put up a fight and a good one at that. We were having troubles securing the District and after having some smaller casualties we left. They said District Six wasn't entirely necessary when we had already secured half the country. We already had control of the agriculture and transportation Districts so Six would eventually have to surrender.

After leaving Six, to their own devices and eventual surrender we secured both Five and Four in the middle of the night. We were getting closer to the Capitol with every District. Over fifty percent of the country was under control of the 'Rebels'. No reports were coming in from Snow, making it easier for us to secure the Districts as we arrived finding the Districts empty of Peacekeepers and angered citizens by the fact that Snow was saying nothing of the current war situation. It was as if Snow had locked herself inside the mansion and was refusing to acknowledge what was going on outside of her bubble. She has one raging fire coming her way soon.

I know this is short as fuck, but I did update Friday. I was going to put this up on Saturday but then I had band pretty much all day. Then, yesterday I just didn't feel like fucking updating, so I am now. -- Alexis
