The street I walked was empty, it was always like this every morning. I've walked down this street countless times, nothing seeming unusual or out of the ordinary, it was just like every single day. The busy streets of Tokyo were calm on these parts, no one waking up to cause a fuss or ruckus until later in the day. The few cars that passed me, heading farther into the city to their jobs and careers, made a much quieter noise as they drove by. It was a cloudy day again, no sunlight visible in the sky, adding to the gloomy atmosphere. I walked up to the café I regularly visited before school, I had always enjoyed the coffee here, it was soothing and gave me a somewhat nostalgic feeling whenever I drank it. There was something off about today though, as I lifted my hand up to the door handle, a feeling of anticipation overcame me suddenly. I was anxious of what was beyond this door today, I became shaky as I made contact with the door.

I opened the door, the bell hanging above me chiming as I entered. I was greeted by the waitress there, her smile reaching her eyes. I looked around, finding that strange since she had always wore a sadden look in her blue eyes. I rested my eyes on the figure in my spot in the corner of the shop by the windows. I watched as his gaze met mine, the sunlight emerging from behind the clouds, illuminating his face partially. I find it strange to even think this but, for the first time, in my black and white world, he was the only thing that was grey.

I studied his movements as he set his book down, his grey eyes scanning me as I stood a few feet away from him. I had never seen this man here, it had always just been me in the shop this early in the morning. His salt and pepper hair was unusual, his grey eyes held much depth to them, he wore a white trench coat while carrying a brief case with him. I had a strange feeling about him, it made me nervous, and somewhat frightened.

"Is there something wrong?" He looked at me worryingly, raising a brow. I watched as the waitress walked over to us, setting down two cups of coffee and a few sandwiches.

"Yes, officer. You're in her seat." She smiled as she turned to me. "I'm assuming the usual, (Y/N)?" She looked over to the table. "I hope you two can try to get along over some breakfast." I looked at her curiously before turning back to the older man seated at the table. I made my way over, sitting across from him as I took off my scarf before I grabbed my cup. He stared at me for a few moments before he spoke.

"Sorry, I had no idea you sat here." He let out a chuckle as he held his chin. I gave no response, simply eating the sandwiches I ordered everyday here. He gave me another questioning look, his eyes shifting from me to the sandwiches on the plate.

"Just grab some." I didn't bother looking at him as he accepted. I was able to tell he was satisfied with my answer as he let out a pleased sigh as he reached over. His hand landed on the one closest to me, causing me to look up as he gave me a small smile.

"Thank you." He beamed. I looked down to my cup, my reflection showing in the light brown liquid. I found it a bit strange that the waitress, Touka, was having me sit here with this stranger, having me share a meal with him. I don't understand why she wanted this, nor why she seemed somewhat happy today. I glanced over to her, seeing her readying the shop for the next few customers that are to arrive at a later time. I drank some more of my coffee, my eyes landing upon the police officer seated across from me. He had his nose buried in the book he was reading, taking a small break every few minutes to either drink some coffee or take a bite out of the sandwich in his left hand. Mid-bite, his eyes met mine as we stared at one another for a few moments. I stood up abruptly, placing some money onto the table to pay for both coffees and the food.

"I'm gonna be late." I picked up my school bag as I began heading straight for the door, stopping for a second to look at Touka behind the counter. "I'll see you later, Touka-San." I placed my hand on the door, pushing it open, my eyes landing on the man who stayed seated at the table. I felt something strange as I saw him smiling at me, resting his chin on his hand as his eyes were narrowed. I felt the cool air hit my warm face as I continued walking, my eyes not leaving the pavement I stepped on. I stopped as my eyes landed on familiar, expensive looking shoes. I slowly looked up, seeing the person I didn't want to run into.
