"Ah... What's wrong, (L/N)-San?" Haise stepped closer, practically running over to me. He brought a hand up to my face, wiping away my tears with his thumb. "Was my pun really that bad?" He chortled, a sad smile on his face. "I guess I must have lost my touch, huh?" He placed a bouquet of flowers on the table, digging into the pockets of his coat. As he pulled out a handkerchief, a small slip of paper fell out. He handed me the small cloth, letting me use it to dry my eyes. He walked back to the entrance, placing his coat on the coat rack. I picked up the paper, faintly seeing some writing.
"What is this?" Haise turned to me, laughing a bit.
"Oh, that? Kuki-Kun has been dropping by here often, right?" I nodded, unfolding it. "I don't really get why, but he's been checking up on you for me." The note had everything I told Urie today. So I was right; Urie's been giving the notes to Haise. I looked down at the table, seeing the wet bouquet.
"What's this for?" He let out a breath, grabbing it, causing drops of water to fall onto the floor.
"It's from the Kobayashi's..." He frowned. "They came into the office, and asked me to bring it to you." I looked at the flowers; blue irises, gladiolus flowers, dark red, pink and white roses surrounded by forget-me-nots and baby breaths.
"I'm sorry, who?" I didn't understand why I would receive a bouquet. "Who sent them?" Haise stared at me for a moment.
"What do you mean? It's from the girls' parents..." I held onto the flowers, a heavy feeling coming onto me. I frowned.
"But I don't talk to anyone named Kobayashi. I'm pretty sure there's no one in my class with that name, nor previous classes." He stayed silent, not uttering a word for a moment.
"(L/N)-San, do you remember why you were at the hospital?" I thought back for a moment; everything seemed a bit foggy.
"A car accident... right?" I can't really recall what happened exactly. "Hinami-Chan must have really been terrified afterwards, that must be why she's going to therapy." I looked back down to the flowers in my arms. "So, are these from the driver's parents? Were they alright?" He slowly nodded.
"Yeah, you and Fueguchi-San got into a car accident on your way home." He sat himself down. "The driver and passenger didn't make it though..." My eyes widened.
"I see..." I felt terrible hearing that. I guess we were more than lucky. I placed the bouquet back on the table. "I always really liked the flowers you bought me, Sasaki-San." His head shot up, giving me a surprised look.
"Really?" I nodded.
"I really like the color blue. Despite the fact that you'd bring lots of different flowers each time, I noticed you always had blue roses in each bouquet." I gave him a small smile. "I really liked that." He hummed in response, smiling back at me softly.
"I'm glad to hear that." I sat across from him.
"So, were you busy with work this whole time?" He nodded.
"Yeah, I had to do a lot of paperwork after the accident." He held his chin for a moment, propping himself up as he leaned on the table. "I got stuck in the office for a while, sorry about that. You must have thought I ditched you, huh?" I shrugged.
I stared at him for a moment.
"Sasaki-San, you seem really young." He raised an eyebrow at me. "How old are you?"
"Twenty-three." I looked at him bewilderingly.
"What's your rank then?"
"Chief Inspector."
"But you're so young, how were you able to do that?" He smiled at me.
"I'm pretty smart, you know." I stared at him in awe. He chuckled as he saw me, rubbing the nape of his neck. "Impressed?" I nodded. "So, you're working here now, huh?" He glanced around the dim room, his grey eyes landing back on me. "If I may say, the uniform looks really good on you." I felt heat rushing to my face, looking away as I mumbled a thank you.
