You're my weakness, babe
But you give me strength

Chapter 11 ~ Shadow

Trey Carter

As Raven drove us to an unknown destination, I decided that when I escaped the control of these crazy stoners—which I will because I had ingeniously stolen Owen's cell phone while he was asleep—I was going to write a book on how to escape capture. I wasn't sure who would read it, but I figured it would be an excellent book on survival tips. So once I got out of here, returned to my normal life, and published this sure to be best-seller, I'd make enough money to buy not one, not two, but thousands of dildos.

Hah, poor little Owen had no idea that he was being played. Like he actually thought that I wanted to cuddle with him! I made up that stupid lie about my nanny cuddling with me when I had nightmares, and he bought it! It must have been those underlying gay tendencies that he claimed not to have.

But Owen wasn't the only one who seemed to be certain of his sexuality. Nearly minutes after getting onto the main highway, Raven's hands clutched the wheel tighter and she stated, "He's not gay, you know, so don't get your hopes up."

Not being able to help it, I smirked. I recalled the memory of those two boys blowing Owen in the alley and him thoroughly enjoying it. I wondered if she knew what her boyfriend did in exchange for information. "How are you so sure that he's not gay?"

"Because after everything that he's been through..." Raven's posture straightened significantly. "...he can't be."

I nodded along with her, pretending to understand. Owen's cell phone was safely tucked in my back pocket and I knew it'd only be a matter of time until I called for help, so I figured now was my time to be an absolute dick. "That's sweet, but did you know that your straight boyfriend let two boys blow him?"

She shrugged. "That doesn't mean anything. I let other people fuck me all the time. We do what we need to do to get what we need."

"Well, that's not fucked up at all," I noted, sarcasm coating my words. It was a shame that Owen and Raven were openly cheating on each other. I had never been in a solid relationship before, but if I ever got the chance, I would cherish that person with my life. I'd be there for him and I'd be faithful to him. I would be the best boyfriend ever, unlike Liam and Jamie.

Raven and I didn't talk much during the drive to her destination. Clearly, she was distraught over what she had seen with me and her boyfriend, but it was almost like she was desperately trying to not let it faze her. She wanted to believe that Owen was her soulmate, or ride-or-die, as she called it, but even I could tell that Owen didn't feel the same way about her. I wasn't even sure if Owen could feel that way about anyone. The only person that he seemed to care deeply about was Liam.

The truck came to a stop alongside the curb of a shady conglomeration of buildings with just as shady alleys in between them. It was a little past noon and the sun was at its highest in the sky, which was such a relief to see. Ever since Owen kidnapped me, I was under the impression that my life would be a myriad of darkness and shadows from. The sun gave me hope and reassurance that I could escape this hellhole and get back to my safe and comfortable three-story mansion.

"Okay," Raven breathed out as she undid her seat belt. "I'm gonna talk to Diablo and you're gonna stay here, okay?"

I shrugged. "Sure."
