Ruby sat onto the chair, scooting closer to the table and still clenching the envelope. You could see her worried expression, but no-one in the lunch hall paid any attention. Except from another student, sat directly opposite Ruby with her group of friends. Sapphire observed from a distance, pondering as to why the usually confident girl looked anxious. Slowly, Ruby tore open the mysterious envelope, squinting her eyes as if she was scared of its contents. "Hey Sapphire, are you gonna eat that?" Amethyst pointed to the cookie in front of her, eager to eat it. Sapphire shook her head and slid it across the table to her, still staring at the oblivious girl.
The envelope was now on the floor, and tears were budding on Ruby's eyes. She gritted her teeth and put her head down onto the table, her shoulders began shaking. She was crying, and Sapphire couldn't ignore it. They had never spoken, except from the occasional 'Could you pass me that?' and 'Can I borrow your rubber?'. "I'll be back in a minute." Sapphire told her friends. "Where are you going?" Pearl looked to her, curious. "To that girl. She's upset." She bluntly replied, Garnet raising an eyebrow and Amethyst not caring. They were all confused. 'That girl' wasn't exactly high on the popularity ranks, and they didn't need anyone tarnishing how high up they were. Pretty high. A force to be reckoned with, they were.
The three told her not to go, moaning and whining, but she ignored and took a seat next to the upset student. "H-hi. Are you ok?" Ruby lifted up her head, surprised that she was talking to her. Her cheeks were red, and so were her eyes. She nodded yes, but she obviously wasn't, and now she was embarrassed. She was making a scene. Sapphire moved closer, Pearl hissing at her and Garnet shooshing her. Garnet didn't believe in bullying, especially the vulnerable. "No you're not. What's wrong?" She asked again, putting her hand on her back. Her squad looked on with curiosity. "Ya know those mock GCSE things? Well, I got an E in maths." Ruby grumbled, still sniffling a little.
Sapphire thought for a moment. "Oh. Well that's, um..." She didn't know what to say. "It's bad. And my parents aren't gonna like it either." Ruby continued venting. Sapphire needed something to say, quickly. Something comforting. "I can tutor you... if you want?" Sapphire blurted out, much to Pearl's dismay. Ruby sat up. "R-really...?" She was surprised again. Why was she helping such a loser? Ruby quickly hugged the other girl, head on her shoulder. Sapphire was shocked, but returned the embrace. Ruby was smiling now, a single tear left on her cheek. What's better than getting tutored by your crush? "Thank you." She mumbled, which made Sapphire gain a little smile on her face.
