Farrah POV (Before)

I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I'm acting all whiny and desperate. I'm sorry I made Belle upset. I'm sorry I'm never going to be good enough for anyone to stay.

The first person who ever left me was my Dad. I was only four, but I knew something was wrong. I remember thinking that Mom and Dad were fighting more than usual, which for their reputation was saying something. I remember asking him if he wanted to play with me, since that usually cheered him up a bit.

He didn't want to play anymore. Signs kept appearing but I never realized it until he was gone: I wasn't enough, anymore.

The second person to leave was my mom. But not in the same sense as before. Without my Dad's income, she had to get a better paying job with more hours. She got overtime whenever possible, and when she was at home she'd be asleep or about to leave for a meeting.

I'm grateful for her working so hard for me, but sometimes I wish we could talk for more than some quick 'love you's before she's out the door.

Anyone I get too close to leaves, that's just the way the world works. If it wasn't for me my parents wouldn't have stayed together, but they were both miserable. Because of me their lives were practically ruined, and then they left me.

Belle. My best friend since before I could even remember. I'm doing it again. I got too close to her, and now I'm ruining her life. She's sacrificing living her life to try and put mine back together. But even she's getting tired of me. Fixing me never works. And then they always leave.

Growing up I was obsessed with Disney movies. I thought my mate would be just like a prince, taking me away from anything that hurt me. He would love me immediately, and we'd fall in love, and he'd take me away from everyone else.

I know, that was totally the most realistic scenario. But I wanted a goal for my life, and I figured as long as my mate and I were together everything else would just fit into place.

The day before I met my mate, I got a phone call. It was strange hearing the phone ring since literally no one except the occasional 'Would you like to participate in a short survey?' person calls our home phone. I picked it up, apprehensively and quietly muttered a "Hello?"

The person on the other end seemed hesitant to speak, but once they did I stood frozen, in place, because I was hearing a voice that I thought was lost in time. "Farrah, my little girl."

Athena POV (After)

I was back at the Red Cries pack. But not as it is now. Like it was... before. In the corner of my eye I notice a boy and girl get out of a car. When I turn towards them my eyes nearly pop out of my head.

It's me and Beau. But, we're both younger... about 6 years younger. I have a baby face with acne again. And Beau... is talking to me. Well, flashback me anyway.

It was the day we got here. Early summer, it was as beautiful as I remembered. I noticed my younger self was walking away, and I started moving after her.

Little me started climbing a tree, and I called out for her to stop before she hurts herself or... us?, but I don't think she could hear me.

I walked over to where she was and realized she couldn't see or hear me at all. I watched her sit in the tree, and take pictures on her flip phone. Oh, right. We had forgotten our camera back at the house while we were protesting against coming here.

Little Athena looked at the pictures and sighed frustratedly, "I don't want to be here!" she grumbled to no one in particular.

"That would appear to be a recurring theme today," a voice said nearby.

Little Athena sat up straight. I then noticed another girl on a higher branch in the same tree. The girl jumped down gracefully, landing in front of my past self.

"What do you mean?" I asked tentatively.

The girl sat down. "Pretty much all of the packs' leaders' kids are here, and none of them want to be." The girl sighed. "I couldn't even convince two of my friends to come along."

"Well it is the beginning of summer." I sighed. "And who knows how long we'll be here."

The girl nodded in agreement, then turned to face little me. "Oh by the way, I never told you my name." she extended her hand. "I'm Onyx."

"Athena," I said then added, "Has anyone told you you look like a young Rose Tyler?"

---

I woke up with a start, and suddenly knew what I had to do. I really had to use the restroom. Oh, and talk to Onyx. But not without getting something first.

---

I got back from the store about an hour later, and entered the pack house to hushed voices.

"Look, I know you're upset but we can't." I heard Ellie say. I stayed very quiet as I began to take off my jacket and shoes.

"They're our best friends!" Piper whisper-yelled.

"Look," Ellie started. "They don't need to know what happened, okay? To either of us."

I heard a sigh. "I don't want them to think that we're keeping secrets from them... but I guess we've already screwed that part up."

"It isn't a secret because we're not hiding anything." Ellie insisted.

"Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself."

"Did you tell Athena or Nyx what you had for lunch yesterday? Not telling isn't the same as hiding."

Piper didn't reply, and I heard steps coming towards the stairs so I quickly shot up and started walking down them casually.

Piper's eyes widened at the sight of me, but I kept my cool. "Hey Pipes, what's up?" I greeted, and she simply nodded and then rushed past me.

What aren't they telling us? It doesn't really matter except I know for a fact something happened in Brazil and it has obviously affected them.

I went into Onyx's office before I could convince myself otherwise and immediately started talking. "Look I finally got why you were acting so weird, and I want you to know I'm sorry I forgot why we're friends. I'm sorry that I've been acting so aloof and like you were just my boss and not my best friend first, I'm sorry that I've been a shitty friend, and I'm sorry that I don't know how to handle everything in my life and my frustration comes out at everyone around me!" I take in a deep breath, and wait for her response.

But Onyx wasn't in front of me. Colton was though, with his eyebrows raised. I looked around and noticed his shirt and some women's clothing articles on the floor behind me. "Oh." I mumbled. "I'll just be going-"

"No, wait." Onyx said, from behind me. Her hair was pulled up messily and she was wearing an oversized t-shirt. "I heard what you said."

Maybe this was a moment for a hug or something, but after piecing together what just happened in this room I was feeling too awkward to even talk.

Onyx noticing this, said she'd meet me in her room in 5 minutes.

Author's Note:

So, it's been awhile.

Six months.

No biggie, though, right?

Life kind of came crashing down on top of me and I had to find my way out of the heap of stuff I was buried in, in the dark, while being screamed at by numerous people. I have quit theater (more like my mother made me because I was 'too stressed' and 'didn't get enough sleep' which is true but I love it and if my grades are relatively fine(relatively) and I'm a very happy zombie who got 2 hours of sleep who cares?) So that means that in the last year I quit pretty much everything I enjoyed (including writing this book). But I think I'm going to get a job this summer so we'll see how my updating is.

Some interesting things are afoot. Who called Farrah? What do they want? Will Athena ever get her life together? Guess you'll just have to keep reading ;)

Peace to the peeps,

Gabi <3
