Forks hitting ceramic dishes is all you could hear in the awkward air at the table,
salads were finished, and scalloped potatoes were started, along with some asparagus and baked chicken.

"So,"
David cleared his throat
"Luke, what are you thinking of doing after school and everything?"

"Oh, there's so many things I want to do,"
Luke thought while playing with her potatoes
"Maybe I'll go into cosmetology, I haven't decided."
Luke looked up at David with a light genuine smile

"That sounds really interesting, Calum here is going into graphic design"
David smiles back

"Mhm."
Calum agreed

His father just nodded
his head then continued eating.

Meanwhile, a flustered Luke tried to concentrate on her food has Calum drew circles into her thighs, the Māori boy's hand rose further, slightly under her skirt.

"I-I need to be excused,"
Luke stood up quickly, walking to the bathroom quickly.

As Luke got her phone got her phone out, she noticed the time, 8:45.

"Fuck I just-"
Luke was interrupted by a knock,

"Are you not feeling well?"
Liz questioned quietly

"I uh-yeah. I just feel a little nauseous mum."
Luke replied as she thought about her plan

"Oh gosh, was it the chicken-"

Luke opened to door trying to act and look sick,

"Everything was great, tell David bye for me. It was nice having him."

"What about Calum?"

"Ugh, mum he's a prick."

Liz just chucked
"Feel better"

After a quick moment of getting dressed, Luke finally felt pretty.
Grabbing some shoes, she walked down the hall quietly to her mothers room, trying not to be seen.

Liz's room had a balcony, with stairs that led to the backyard. Sliding the glass door open with a squeak, made Luke's stomach turn. One more squeak later, Luke was nearly at the bottom of the stairs.

By the time Luke reached the bottom of the stairs,
It was 8:59.

She ran quickly past the living room window thinking everyone was distracted, before she heard a voice at least.

"And where are you going?"
Calum whispered over her shoulder

"Why does it matter to you?"

"A guy is taking me somewhere, I was gonna offer you a ride."

"Where're you going?"
Luke quizzed

"Places, so are go going or not?"

Luke looked at him with empty eyes

"I need to tell him if we need to make a stop or not-"

"Yeah, yeah I'll go."
Luke slipped on her flats before sitting in the grass

Calum let out a genuine smile
"Hey why don't we walk out to the beginning of the street so your mom and my dad don't see us."

"Great idea,"
Luke looked down at the soft grass shining off the street light before Calum put out a hand to help her up, which she gladly accepted.

As they were walking, silence fell on their shoulders, not an awkward silence. Not a comfortable on either.

"Luke?"

"Mhm?"
Luke hummed as she looked up at the tall boy

"Y-you know I didn't mean to take you boyfriend-I guess you could call him,"
Calum sighed
"He told me that you guys weren't together-"

"Well, it doesn't matter. He left."
Luke rolled her eyes

"No he didn't? Who do you think is picking us up?"
Calum raised his brow
