N I N E T E E N

Mason's P.O.V
I woke up in my very uncomfortable bed. I have been here four days and it's still so uncomfortable. I look over at Emma who was sound asleep in her own bed.
I'm scared for us. After I get out we are going to a orphanage, I really hope she doesn't get adopted and then we will never see each other again. I have to wait three years before I can legally take care of her. And I can't bring my self to tell Emma that Aunty Juliet isn't coming. It will break her heart. It was it's a little lie that will turn into a big one soon.
I shift around slightly, the pain on my stomach is easing but very slowly. My heart rate it very, very low my fitness and age. It makes me really worried. But at least the upside to this is that at this very moment, my dad is in court trails.
I wonder if Beth misses me. I wonder if she ever came the night I got here. I didn't really ask Emma. Maybe I should when she wakes up. But it is a little early.
Now that I think of it, I'm kinda hungry. I press the button for nurse assistance.
" What can I get for you Mason?" Nurse Sadie asks.
" I would like some breakfast," I request.
" Okay, I'll be back in a jiffy!"
Sadie leaves the room. I decide to set up my table for breakfast. Once I got everything set up I leant over to get a remote, I felt myself hit a spot with a bruise I grit my teeth, trying not to wake up Emma. A shot of pain filled my stomach. Soon it went away and I turned back onto my back.
I flick on the T.V holding my stomach. Sadie came in and set down a tray of food on the table.
" If you need anything else, you know what to do!" She said and left the room.
I take the top off my food tray to reveal and small bowel of scrambled eggs, orange juice and my medicine. I run my hands over the bandage on my head softly. The medicine will help heal the pain from my head.
I began eating the food. It's not very nice actually but when your sick of hurt I guess anything will do.
" Hello Mason!" I hear a cheerful voice call out.
" Morning Emma," I say.
She places herself on then end of my bed and looks up at me smiling.
" Are you feeling better?" She asks, looking slightly concerned.
" Yeah, I am. Why don't you go down to the eating hall and collect some breakfast?" I suggest.
" Okay, I'll be back soon!"
Emma bounces out of the room. I sigh and sit back in my chair. I quickly skull down the medicine. It tasted like poison but it helps me I guess. I really need some fresh air.
I grab my crutches and put them under my arms. I steady myself and start walking.

At the hospital they have a really nice garden area with a pond and a few trees and seats.
I take a seat on one and watch a few ducks play on the pond.
" Cute, aren't they?" A voice said.
I looked up and saw Winter. I met her yesterday when we were at the teens area.
" Yeah. How you holding up?" I ask, turning to face her.
" I'm doing okay. How about you?"
I know she isn't doing okay, she is mentally ill with depression and tried to kill herself a few weeks ago.
" I'm okay, it still hurts a little."
She takes a seat next to me.
" How is Emma?" She says moving a bit closer.
" She is a little too happy. But the more happy she is the less it hurts."
Winter places a hand on my thigh. I take a deep breath, and try to move away a bit.
" You know you want me," she whispers.
" No, I have a girlfriend," I say, trying to move her hands away. I was getting really uncomfortable.
" Mason, I'm so much better than her," she whispers.
" Leave me alone," I say trying to get away.
She grabs my wrist and pulls me into a kiss.
" What the fuck!" I say pulling away from her.
Her eyes will with tears.
" I'm sorry. I just haven't kissed anyone before."
Her face fell. It was hard for me to feel sorry for her. I quickly slip away and try to process everything that just happened.
