Do you have any idea how hard it is to see someone everyday and have to pretend you don’t know them at the same time… when in fact, the two of you used to be in love and everybody around you thought you two would end up getting married some day?
I bet only one out of ten people can only understand how that feels.
Hi, I’m Jennifer Nickelsen; Jenny for short. I’m twenty-one, turning twenty-two this December. I just graduated from college and currently looking for a job. I used to be the girl who thought everyone’s a freaking Saint; I trusted guys and girls way too much up to the point that everyone around me started using me for their entertainment. It all started at my high school’s senior prom…
FLASHBACK
“Wow, you look… absolutely beautiful.”
I turned around to see my boyfriend, Garrett, leaning against the entrance of my room casually with his hands inside his pockets-looking really good in his black tux. I gave him a warm smile and went back to putting on my white, pearl ear rings. “Thanks.”
“What, I don’t get a compliment too?” I saw him raise his eyebrows through the mirror.
I giggled, “You look really hot Garrett.”
“Thank you!”
He walked over and sat down on the edge of my bed. I could feel him boring holes through my skin. “What’s up with you?” I asked bluntly, moving on to putting pink lip gloss on my naturally pouty lips.
“I can’t believe high school’s over.” He replied instantly.
I put placed the lid back on and faced him, hands on my hips. “What?”
He ran a hand through his thick, dark brown hair and sighed. “I mean, we just got started with this relationship and then high school just has to end…” he trailed off, sighing again.
My hands fell to my sides. Yeah, high school is about to end. “I know Garrett.”
His green eyes met mine with so full of emotion that I couldn’t help but be drawn inside. “Always know that I don’t regret ever choosing you over the perks of popularity and that I’d do anything to protect you from the whole world.” He looked scared, scared of the unknown that was going to happen.
I walked over to him, caressed his cheek with the back of my hand and kissed his forehead lightly. “I know that too.” And I gave him one sweet smile before cocking an eyebrow. “What are you doing up here anyway? Aren’t you supposed to wait downstairs for the ‘walking-down-the-stairs-effect’?” I crossed my arms over my chest disapprovingly.
Garrett grinned sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. “I just couldn’t wait to see you inside that dress… although, you’ll look better without it.”
My face heated up at his last comment. “Shut up!”
“Oh come on, you know it’s true!” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
“I-”
My mom’s voice calling out from the living room cut me off. “Kids, it’s almost time to leave!”
Garrett laughed at my annoyed expression and slipped his hand in mine. “Come on, your mom sounds too excited. She might kill the both of us if we take too long.”
I grabbed my white purse and nodded, agreeing one hundred percent.
While we were both walking down the stairs, my mother had her Nikon D7000 in her hands. “Smile!”
